👣The thing about birth is that it’s always capable of giving you something you haven’t quite seen before. Sunday afternoon birth did this for Cara when our client broke her water, started contractions within 15 minutes, and had her baby around 30 minutes later! Yes you heard that right, our client’s labor was so fast that if you blinked you might have missed it. She and her partner exhibited incredible calm in the most unexpected of circumstances and grandma even made it back from the park around the corner with big sister to help usher her new granddaughter into the world. So in lieu of the typical footprint pics I give you this: a picture of the Shake Shack ordered before labor that arrived after the baby was born. Grateful, as always, for our clients trust in us but this birth was a masterclass in how a birthing person can trust themselves! Congratulations to this new family of 4!

👋🥺 With deep sadness, we share with all of you the difficult news we shared with our clients recently: Central Park Midwifery will be closing permanently at the end of this year.

🙏 We’re immensely grateful to all the clients who’ve honored us with their trust, and to our fellow birth workers, colleagues, collaborators, and friends who’ve supported us so much over the years! In a healthcare system that becomes less and less personal every day, we strived to ensure that CPM remained an oasis of exceptional, individualized care.

💞 At this time, we are grieving the loss of our practice and focusing our attention on the clients currently in our care. We don’t yet know what’s next for each of us in this work that we love, but whatever we do, we’ll carry the incredible spirit of CPM with us everywhere we go.

👣Cara is so excited to announce a petite baby girl joined us early early Saturday morning! She was welcomed by the sound of her mom and dad singing the same song they sang to her as she grew 🥰. Her mom faced an unexpected change of plans near the end of her pregnancy that meant she met her baby a little sooner than expected and rolled with the punches beautifully. Midway through labor, baby girl briefly lost her way but with some targeted Spinning Babies® moves we were able to get her locked and loaded and labor moved quickly from there! This incredible, strong mom pushed like she meant it until her baby was safely in her arms! She was beautifully supported by her partner and sister all the while and when all was said and done told us that with us by our side she felt safe, heard, and supported. What more could we want? Congratulations to this family! 💕

👣 Birth is really tough. It’s tough on the person giving birth and it’s tough on the person being birthed. But people are tougher, and this duo proved that yesterday. This little cutie managed to find his way into the birth canal with one hand pressed against his face and the other tucked under his chin, which probably didn’t feel much better for him than it did for his mom! Yet he wriggled and twisted and kicked and powered his way through the pelvis, and his incredible mom summoned grandmother-lifts-car-off-grandchild strength when it started getting a little too tough on him. And, after pushing for over 4 hours, she found one more level of oomph to push him—head, hands, and arms—into HER arms!! With an intact perineum, no less! 😮 Christina took him by the hand (literally 😆), helped him stretch one arm up and out to free the rest of his body, and he entered the world looking like Superman and strong like Superman, letting out a good cry with half his body still in the birth canal. This birth was truly a team effort. Baby was a trooper, mom was an absolute , dad and doula supported her every move and need, and the medical team this couple chose offered them the tools, information, advice, and patience (plus some experienced, hands-on support) to help her and this baby show us all how SUPER they are!! We couldn’t be more impressed and proud, or more honored by their trust in us. Congratulations!! 🎉

👣 Sharing these footprints of the sweetest and most alert little peanut❤️ Early Friday morning her mama, dad, and grandma were so overjoyed to meet this little one. This mama had to make some decisions that were really hard, but needed, to bring her baby earth side. She met these challenges with absolute strength and love. She navigated an unexpected quick turn in labor, knowing exactly what she needed in those moments. She was a true superhero and we are so incredibly proud of her. Elaine was honored to catch her baby girl, and Cara helped get the party started. Congratulations!

👣 Why yes, that IS a full milliliter of 🌟 liquid gold 🌟 that our newest new mom lovingly hand expressed, drop by drop, within 1 hour of giving birth yesterday—and that’s only HALF of it!! This incredible woman essentially ran a 20-hour marathon (apropos since her labor started on NYC marathon Sunday) and gave birth in one of the most stressful and scary ways possible, and yet when offered sleep vs trying to express some colostrum for her baby, who wasn’t able to nurse at her breast just yet, she didn’t hesitate to choose to provide for her child. That’s motherhood. And that’s astounding!! Christina had the honor of witnessing the fierce courage and gentle love this woman tapped into to bring her daughter safely into the world. We’re all so impressed with and proud of her and thankful this couple chose us to guide them on this momentous journey! Congratulations!! 🥳

📸 Posted with permission, as always!

P.S. We’d like to share 2 direct quotes from this couple: (1) “I can’t imagine doing this without a doula!” (2) “I’m SO glad we chose midwives!”

👣Hope everyone had a Happy Halloween! We sure did here at CPM when this little pumpkin decided to join us in dramatic fashion first thing yesterday morning. This baby girl brought both the trick AND treat to her first time parents who were just so overjoyed to meet her. Her mom was so unbelievably strong and brave, ready for everything this birth asked of her. Her husband was such a steady and unbelievable support throughout! The first moments of this new family of three were so special for Cara to witness and she couldn’t stop gushing that this sweet baby girl was her mama’s mini me. Big congratulations to this family! 🎃🩷

👣 Elaine was so honored to witness this joyous arrival of a baby girl early yesterday morning! This mama was faced with some unexpected challenges and choices along the way and she met them all with determination and patience and strength. The labor room was full of love from start to finish - both parents and Vovó were eagerly awaiting this baby girl’s arrival. When Mama saw her baby for the first time, she reached out with such excitement and love to hold her sweet baby! We are so happy for this family! Thank you for sharing your journey with us!

👣 Just after midnight on Saturday Cara had the honor and privilege of welcoming a sweet and gentle baby boy. The name our clients chose for him surely must have been a prediction that he would ask his mom to “go with the flow” during his birth. These first time parents had lots of decisions to weigh during the lead up to his birth and they considered every step as a team, and with so much intention! With her partner and doula by her side this mom was fiercely pushed her baby out (through quite a tangled cord) and into her arms! We couldn’t be more thrilled for these new parents and are so grateful for your trust. Welcome to the world, little Scorpio!♏️ 🩵

🤲👣 We can’t get enough of this photo of our newest arrival holding her Aba’s hand!! 🥹 This [ridiculously cute] baby is lucky in so many ways. She has a mom who showed her incredible capacity for Patience (with a capital P!!!) as she waited to greet her long-awaited child. This baby has a mom who used her well-practiced coping techniques when she was scared—and coped beautifully with her partner’s equally beautiful support. This baby has two parents who have a love-at-first-sight meet-cute story that we were all so entranced with! 😍 Christina had the honor of greeting this lucky baby with these two courageous, mutually supportive, deeply in love parents! Nothing about this pregnancy or this birth was easy, but this couple is amazingly resilient, and we’re so excited that they finally have their baby in their arms!!! 🥰

👣 In the wee hours of the morning, Elaine was so excited to welcome a baby girl. This mama knew what she needed, including promptly going to bed early when she felt labor could be starting! When her labor began, she moved through it with grace and composure and strength - so much so that she surprised us (and herself!) when she arrived to the hospital very close to meeting her baby! We had a great team and we were all so impressed with and proud of this mama. Congratulations!!

👣 This afternoon, Christina had the distinct joy of helping another midwife give birth to her first baby! Every birth we attend is an honor, but there’s something extra sweet about watching a midwife—whose hands have welcomed many babies—reach down and bring her own baby into her hands. 🥹 This baby couldn’t quite decide whether to hurry up or wait, so she went with a little bit of both before deciding to just go with the flow and come on out. Her mom took it all in stride, made great choices to give herself the best chance of the birth experience she wanted, and pushed her first baby out in 7 minutes (at age 40)!! 🤩 She’s amazing, and we’re all so excited for her and proud of what she accomplished after an eventful pregnancy. Congratulations!! 🎊 Welcome to the world, sweet baby. 🌹
