Hi it’s been a while! I am one of the few people who want to find more time to get on social media!

A friend asked today about advice to help with coping with the poor air quality in LA. This information is really the same as what I shared when we had terrible air quality in NYC from the Canadian fires.

Air pollution increases ROS (reactive oxygen species), these are highly reactive molecules that cause oxidative stress and damage to cells and tissues and organelles including mitochondria. It can increase DNA damage and trigger inflammation. These are systemic changes hence why people who live in polluted city’s have an increased risk of dementia, cardiovascular and lung disease just from the pollution! Of course there is is also the local irritant effect on the lungs themselves.

What to do?!?

While the air pollution is high (or actually anytime!) you need to boost your glutathione and SOD levels.

As you are likely to be reading this at home here are some home remedies to do this:

- sweat it out! Heat shock proteins triggered by increased core temperature actually increase glutathione production and SOD. Assuming you don’t have a sauna at home- hot baths that increase core temperature by 1-1.2C can be used to trigger heat shock proteins. Take a thermometer to the bath time and keep your temperature up for ten minutes to stimulate the heat shock proteins.

- Eat the rainbow! Compounds in fruits and vegetables help to mop up ROS.

- culinary herbs that increase SOD include Rosemary, oregano, turmeric, sage, thyme, oregano and basil. So if you don’t have milk thistle to hand add herbs to your meal.

- cysteine is an amino acid which is a precursor for glutathione so be sure to have enough in your diet when pollution is high. Sources include poultry, eggs, legumes, garlic, oats and Brussel sprouts.

If like me you have a well stocked supplement cupboard.

I would suggest:
Milk thistle, curcumin, rhodiola, lion’s mane, Boswellia, ginkgo and more!
Selenium, vit C, NAC, alpha lipoic acid.

To get any particulate matter out of lungs any herbal expectorant will help. Thyme, licorice, mullein, inula, lobelia, marubium, anise, hyssop etc etc.

Now is the time for rose, countless hearts need it. Combine taking Rose tincture with heart centered meditation 🧘‍♀️ to see the full effect. Rose helps to relieve grief but in a healthy way, soothes anxiety and encourages the heart to remain open. 💗Feel free to dm me if you need pointers or herbs during this challenging time.
Also pictured: oats for fatigue and frazzled nerves, that feeling of I can’t go on, you can, do it. Borage for courage, Hawthorne the ultimate heart tonic and licorice to help deal with the adrenal burn out.

🤬holding the bird, an acupressure technique for relieving stress. Holding the middle finger in this way stimulates acupressure points on the pericardium, associated with relieving excessive anger and resentment, high fever, and exhaustion. Especially useful for days when you get disastrous political decisions announced.🌿 My go to herb to go for anger is bupleurum which is one of the stars of the famous Chinese formula free and easy wanderer.🚶‍♀️Though the name sounds appealing right now action rather than wandering may be the most helpful. 💪For fellow New Yorkers, you can volunteer to be an es**rt or a host for someone who is traveling to our state for abortions, or you could donate money to support women who can’t afford to travel, or you can head over to Washington sq park tonight at 6.30pm and just SHOUT also great for releasing anger.

**Links in bio **

💗I will be posting tomorrow for help with the sadness and grief that comes when anger has passed. 💗Many of us has a heart which is breaking for the countless girls and women around America who will harmed. A heart breaking for all those who have suffered in the past and fought to make this service as safe as possible.

💥Astragalus mebranaceus (Huang Qi) is a commonly used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). 💥In TCM it is used to strengthen Wei Qi. Wei Qi has been described as a force field, protecting the body from external threats and because of this Astragalus is especially used in the cold and flu season. 💥

💗Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate! 💗Before you eat the massive meal here are some tips incase you DON’T have any herbal medicine or supplements to hand. 🍃You should find most of these in the kitchen. 🍃

1) An hour before the meal have a black coffee as the bitter coffee will cause your liver to be stimulated to make bile and your pancreas to make enzymes. (Of course you can have a bitter aperitifs here!)

2) Just before the meal have two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water, this will help to digest the food but also reduce the blood sugar spike from all the carbs.

3)Take a moment to yourself and try four rounds of 4,7,8 breathing which stimulates the Vagus nerve, the vagus is nerve stimulates production of digestive enzymes, stomach acid and has a calming effect. Breath in for 4, hold for 7, breath out for 8 ideally through the mouth. Repeat four times.

4)During the meal chew your food very well, the digestive enzymes begin their job in the mouth, and the increased surface area of the food will aid the breakdown and reduce bloating.

5)After the meal take a carminative herb in the form of a tea, these are herbs that reduce bloating and gas. Examples you can find in the kitchen include fennel, cardamom, caraway, dill seed, peppermint, orange peel, anise seed and ginger. 🍃What ever you have on the list bash up a bit and add two teaspoons to a cup of freshly boiled water. 🍃Cover with a plate and let it brew for ten minutes, strain and then enjoy! 🍃You can drink more of this tea in the hours after the meal. 🍃🍃

Enjoy time with your family and friends!

🌿Licorice is loved by herbalists and for good reason! 🌿This sweet tasting herb is in Adaptivir tonic. Licorice as well as its potent anti inflammatory and immune supporting actions is good for stress. 🌿

🌿It contains steroidal saponins a compound based on a steroid ring structure that mimics cortisol. This tells the body you have enough of this stress hormone no need to produce more. “A steroid sparing effect” so when stress has been high for a long time and one feels exhausted licorice is one of the best herbs to turn too.

🌿In high doses licorice can increase blood pressure however high doses are needed. Safe to say the glycyrrhizic acid level of each dose of Adaptivir is tested to assure you will never get high blood pressure from taking it, just all the great benefits!
