Our holistic approach to treatment is based on yogic philosophies integrated within evidence-based behavioral and psychodynamic therapies. We offer treatment that is responsive to the latest research, while acknowledging that each client is more than a diagnosis and may need more than traditional manualized treatments. In the spirit of healing and engaging a whole recovery, we encourage involvement from family, friends, and partners in your treatment. Successful healing from an eating disorder means more than just stopping behaviors -- it means being back in your life in a connected way, including the relationships that are most important to you. Our Philosophy is based on the understanding that eating disorders and related food & body image issues are multidimensional. We acknowledge brain-based biological and neurological components as contributors along with physiological, psychological/emotional, behavioral, social, relational, familial, and spiritual factors. With this philosophy in mind, we offer an integrated approach to treatment designed to support a complete recovery. Our Values are expressed in our treatment model as well as how we run our business. Living a valued life means being connected to other people and the greater world. It means honesty, integrity, and the ability to take responsibility for oneself. It means making conscious efforts every day to live in a place of compassion and open-heartedness. I’m pleased to share I will be presenting my paper “When the Container Collapses: Dependency, Despair, and the Maternal Psyche in Film” this summer at the University of Essex, at the 42nd International Conference on Psychology and the Arts Conference. This paper explores parental alienation and psychic conflict in mothers of children with eating disorders. Applying a psychoanalytical approach to a film analysis of “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You”, this paper explores what happens between mother and child when psychic pain becomes unbearable.

Has this ever happened to you? You get triggered — by someone else, a social situation, a thought, a feeling, a worry — and boom 💥 🤯 you explode (with tears, with anger, with anxiety) and everything feels INTENSE! It may take you a while to regulate and recalibrate or you might have a shorter refractory period. In the aftermath you can think more clearly, feel your feelings in a more regulated/neutral way and suddenly that explosion feels outsized (you might even feel regret, shame or embarrassment about your initial response). Neurodivergence, trauma, & limited capacity for emotional regulation are just a few of the causes for the “feel first, act now, think later” response. Staying in a mindful state can help prevent and manage extreme emotional dysregulation. Practicing the DBT mindfulness skills daily are a great way to build emotional muscle and resilience. 💛

Delighted to be teaching this important three part series for the .nyc community! I have been a faculty and supervisor and board member at ICP/CSAB for many years and the work they do is truly outstanding. This series on the treatment of eating disorders is geared towards clinicians, but open to all. It is with great sadness that we share the news that our beloved Stella passed away this morning. We don’t typically share personal news, but Stella was well known and loved by so many at Aurora that it felt important to share this painful news. Stella passed away very peacefully and without any pain. She was a wonderful dog and was with us from the very beginning, quite literally helping build Aurora from the ground up/paws up! We know she is in Olam Ha’Ba eating many kosher hot dogs and entertaining everyone there. While we are of course heartbroken we are comforted knowing we gave her the best life possible and we all cherish the many happy memories with her. 💕💕🐾🐾
