New York Center for Living

New York Center for Living Our treatment program was developed by experienced professionals who understand the young mind and their behavioral patterns.

We are an outpatient treatment center in NYC, dedicated to helping individuals - and their families - with substance use issues and co-occurring mental health challenges. The New York Center for Living is dedicated to one purpose: helping young people and their families work through the web of problems caused by the use and abuse of addictive substances, both legal and illegal. We are a vital source for families around the country looking for information and help for the young people in their lives who have problems with substance abuse and other co-occurring disorders. We focus on the needs of teens and young adults who begin and continue to use addictive substances in response to the daily pressures of adolescence and urban and suburban life. We emphasize the importance of addressing problems as soon as they come to light. At the New York Center for Living, we understand substance use touches more than one area of an addict's life. It affects the whole person physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, and our treatment philosophy addresses all the areas of these life areas, including family, mental health, school, nutrition, and the social environment. We support the use of an innovative 12-step philosophy to help our members and their families become healthy and productive again. Our caring, experienced clinical staff and primary therapists provide a great deal of personal support, guidance and respect so lives can be made whole.

The thoughts our teens carry can feel permanent.

“I messed up.”
“I’ll always feel this way.”
“I can’t do this.”

But perspective can shift. And when it does, everything changes.

At New York Center for Living, we help young people reframe the story they’re telling themselves and build the tools to move forward with confidence.

Because learning, growing, and asking for support are signs of strength.

If your teen is struggling, you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Less screen time can mean better mental health for teens.

Schools across the country are implementing phone restrictions to help students improve focus, emotional well-being, and reduce risk factors linked to anxiety, depression, and substance use. Research shows that excessive phone use can overstimulate the brain, increase stress, and reinforce compulsive behaviors similar to other unhealthy coping patterns.

By limiting phone use during the school day, students have more opportunities for mindfulness, face-to-face connection, and emotional regulation, all of which are protective for mental health.

At New York Center for Living, we support approaches that strengthen teen mental health and reduce risk through evidence-based care.

Teen mental health is at a breaking point.

Today’s teens and young adults face mental health challenges unlike any previous generation, across school, social life, and online spaces. Rates of anxiety, depression, loneliness, and disordered eating continue to rise, with LGBTQ+ youth facing even higher barriers to care.

At New York Center for Living, we provide family-centered outpatient programs for teens and young adults, including LGBTQ+ affirming care for mental health and substance use disorders. Support is available, and early care can make a meaningful difference.

Social media can connect teens, but it can also impact mental health.

While social platforms can offer community, support, and self-expression, heavy use is linked to increased risks. Teens who spend three or more hours a day on social media are twice as likely to experience anxiety or depression. For girls, social media is strongly connected to body image concerns and disordered eating. For boys, the impact is often tied to bullying.

At New York Center for Living, we help teens and families understand these risks and support healthier emotional well-being.

What if the missing piece in your child’s recovery isn’t more effort from them, but more support from the family?

When a treatment plan is recommended, it’s designed to address the full scope of what your child is facing. Partial participation often leads to limited progress. Recovery works best when families are willing to examine patterns, learn new skills, and lead by example.

When parents fully engage, meaningful change becomes possible for everyone involved.
