While the is a major buzz term, we often discover that not everyone knows specifically what it means. Is the CORE the elusive 6 pack? Does it span the length of my trunk? How do I know if I have a strong CORE? We at believe that in order to strengthen a muscle or a group of muscles you must know where they are. So here are some important tidbits to help you :

1. Your CORE is a 3-dimensional unit of muscles that when activated, are meant to contract for prolonged periods, resist fatigue, and stabilize your spine and internal organs.

2. Imbalances within this unit can lead to avoidable injuries and dysfunctions such as muscle spasms/strains, herniated discs, incontinence, organ prolapse and abdominal hernias.

3. The roof of CORE is the diaphragm, the back wall is formed by the the multifidi muscles along the spine, the front wall is the Transversus Abdominis (the deepest abdominal muscle), and the floor consists of the muscles of the pelvic floor. Some of these are visible in the images attached.

Now that you know where your CORE is (or if you want some additional help seeking it out), give us a call and get started on your individualized, in-home strengthening program!
