In this presentation, we will explore cultural competence and compassionate care through the lens of Spoon Theory, a framework developed by Christine Miserandino to explain the impact of having limited energy and resources for
daily life. We will discuss resources that may be uniquely depleted for those caring for individuals with higher support needs, including the resources of time, finances, mental health, parenting experience, and social support. Participants
will learn practical strategies to incorporate into their caregiver collaboration, including how to adapt therapy goals based on the family’s available resources.
Case studies will be reviewed, featuring first-hand accounts from caregivers sharing the unique ways in which they must manage their “spoons.” Join us and discover how understanding “spoons” can equip your clinical toolkit to empower the families you serve, ensuring that compassionate care remains at the forefront of your practice.
This presentation is designed primarily for clinicians and healthcare professionals who work with autistic individuals and their families. However, we warmly welcome all who are interested in learning more. link in Bio!!!!
