Sorry - did we say benefits? Don't worry, your algorithm is safe. Here's what you need to know about indoor tanning from the :
- Worldwide, there are more skin cancer cases due to indoor tanning than there are lung cancer cases due to smoking.
- Skin damage starts with your very first tan. Each time you tan, the damage builds up, creating more genetic mutations and greater risk.
- Tanning damages all types of skin: Even if your skin type is not fair, tanning causes DNA injury that can lead to premature aging and skin cancer.
1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70. We know better now. There is no excuse or justification for using a tanning bed.

In honor of National Dermatologist Day, a walk down memory lane sharing some highlights this wonderful career has given me.
1- Start of med school + my white coat ceremony. So many emotions. I’ve wanted to be a doctor for as long as I can remember-no one in my family was a doc, but I always felt it was exactly what I was meant to do.
2- broadcast- Tamron is brilliant. I've worked with so many hosts and TV talents who are different on air vs. off. She's actually THAT kind and compassionate. Palpable energy!
3- Graduated from YALE! One of the most warm, collaborative environments I've been part of. I met Josh my freshman year- he hit on me at a party and I pretty much ignored him. Little did I know we'd reconnect, fall madly in love, and get engaged 4 years later
4- In 2025 my brand launched P46, one of my proudest formulations to date. An instant bestseller for us and a game changer for mature skin.
5- On with . Being able to spread awareness on teen sun safety and safe skincare alongside my daughter is a dream and I wouldn't have it any other way!
6- Before I got my white coat. Sitting alongside fellow med students about to embark on the most strenuous/rewarding training of my life.
7- conference. Being able to travel and speak on panels is one of my favorite things to do because it allows me to connect with my brilliant colleagues. I also love connecting with and mentoring younger minds going into our field.
8- ! This was huge for me because I grew up being such a huge fan of and . On top of it, I got to know and .
9- 2018 the launch of my best-selling book which has been translated into over 14 languages! I still meet derms and esties who say it's their bible, which makes my heart swell.
10/11- The launch of my brand. What a beautiful journey it's been. I've connected with an incredible community of women who are underrepresented in marketing. It's time for us women over 40 to feel seen- we deserve the BEST

It's Spring Break season- and while the sun may feel amazing after a long winter, it’s crucial to protect your skin.
Practicing safe sun habits can help reduce your risk of sunburn, premature skin aging, and, most importantly, skin cancer.
approved sun-safety guide:
☀️ Seek shade whenever possible, especially between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., when the sun’s rays are strongest.
🧴 Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Apply it to all exposed skin and reapply every two hours, or after swimming or sweating.
👒 Wear protective clothing: a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses with UV protection, and long-sleeved shirts or cover-ups when possible
🌤 Remember that UV rays can still reach your skin on cloudy days, so sunscreen is important even when the sun isn’t shining

Cardio is great- but strength training may be doing something extra for your skin!
A 16-week study compared aerobic exercise to resistance training in middle-aged women. Both improved skin elasticity and upper dermal structure, but here’s the surprise: ONLY resistance training increased dermal thickness!
As we age, our dermal layer (which is the deeper layer where collagen and elastin reside) naturally gets thinner and that shows up as wrinkles and crepey texture, esp around the eyes, the lips and the neck.
Cycling a strength training session with some weights into your weekly routine can actually make that dermal layer thicker! Drop your Qs below ⬇️

The internet: Spironolactone changed my life
Also the internet: Spironolactone made my left eyebrow grow backwards 😂
People are sharing and joking about some of the side effects they experienced while on Spironolactone. I've been prescribing it for YEARS for adult female acne – let's break it down and learn about some of the more common side effects, and some of the less common ones and how you can help prevent.
How can you minimize side effects?
– Start low and increase the dose slowly over time with your derm
– Take the pill with food
– Some of my patients find that splitting the dose - ½ in the morning, ½ at night can be super helpful.

Milia are tiny, firm white bumps caused by keratin trapped beneath the surface of the skin- not clogged pores, and not acne.
No, you should not try to pop them at home. Milia don’t have an ‘opening’ so squeezing can cause inflammation, infection, or scarring.
Safe removal requires a sterile technique in a professional setting, but there are some things you can do at home to prevent or gradually improve.

Your teen daughter tells you she wants to try indoor tanning…and you’re a dermatologist 😳
Thankfully this was a prank- but the risks of indoor tanning are very real.
According to , using tanning beds before age 35 increases your risk of melanoma by 75%. Just one session can damage DNA in your skin cells, accelerate premature aging, and increase your lifetime risk of skin cancers, including melanoma, the deadliest form.
As both a mom and a board-certified dermatologist, this is a hard no in our house. There is no such thing as a “safe tan.” A tan is your skin’s response to injury.
If you want that glow, stick with sunless options. Your future skin will thank you 🤍

Yes, yes, YES!
I hear this from my patients every day. They wake up and feel like they have aged overnight and find themselves pulling up at their skin, noticing the accelerated collagen loss that happens as we enter perimenopause.
No topical serum will replace an in-office procedure, but there are many things you can do to visibly lift and plump the skin from home as well as decrease some of the sagging and fine lines you are seeing.
I tell all my patients over 40- incorporate a peptide serum as the first step after your cleanser and find a vit c and a retinoid that you can tolerate. Be consistent. Your skin will thank you!
Any questions? Want to know more about in-office procedures with minimal downtime too? ⬇️

Today is International Childhood Cancer day. It’s not something that people like to bring up or talk about, but there are important steps you and your teen can take to prevent cancers like Melanoma. I'm proud to use my platform to spread awareness, especially during a time where there has been a resurgence in tanning among teens who are sharing misinformation on social about perceived 'benefits'.
Take it from me and my daughter Maclane – there are no benefits. Protect yourself, talk to the important people and your life and spread awareness on a devastating disease that we now know better how to prevent. Seek shade, cover up and apply (and reapply) your SPF!
