"I've been wanting to feel momentum for so long... and then we have this."
Some 'breaking news' from pianist + composer Michael Harren punctuates how important upper limbs are to creative artists. Michael is an MTF beneficiary who wears many hats -- and for now, wears a cast on his broken wrist.
In a recent update on his Patreon, Michael tosses MTF and Dr. Alton Barron some flowers, not just for treating his current injury, but for providing care when he broke his left hand years ago. "MTF covered the majority of the cost of my hand surgery, my later treatment for arthritis in my thumbs, and now the treatment for my broken wrist. So grateful for this organization!"
Get well soon, Michael! -- and if you know a working musician with an upper limb injury, find out more about how MTF can help them keep the music playing via the CARE page on our website.

Scenes from our recent Team MTF outing at East End Ballroom.
(Most of) our team's clubbing days are behind us, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy each other's company among the disco balls and thumpin beats -- and discuss more ways we can help musicians with upper limb injuries to keep the music playing.

It was a privilege to meet world-renowned guitarist Al Di Meola at his recent show at Stateside at the Paramount.
Al, along with his awesome acoustic band, performed reimagined versions of songs from his five-decade career. Big thanks to "The Guitarchitect" for hosting MTF at this intimate performance that featured some stunning visuals.
Al plugs back in and heads to Poland in March before more select dates in the US this Spring -- aldimeola.com/tour 🎸

Did you know that MTF helps uninsured and underinsured working musicians receive care for upper limb injuries? In some cases, that could mean a fracture or a tear, while in the case of beneficiary Van Wilks, years of (awesome) guitar playing has led to arthritis in his hands.
Regarding MTF's treatment, Van says: "MTF and Dr. Barron have been amazing! He truly understands the issues and how frustrating it can be to the artist. I’ve never had to stop playing."
Van continues to play all over Texas and beyond -- warm up with him at The Saxon Pub on Monday, January 26 -- and visit the CARE page on our website to find out more about how we assist injured musicians and help them to keep the music playing.

Today, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we honor Dr. King’s life, his dream, and the values he urged our nation to uphold: justice, peace, community -- and an affinity for music that heals and inspires us.

We are so proud of MTF beneficiary El Kleiner whose folk duo The Whispering Tree recently self-released their latest album, Bones of Better Days.
El and Elie Brangbour were guests on the latest episode of Independent Minded, a podcast hosted by our friend Ron Scalzo of Bald Freak Music and talked about, among other things, how MTF and Dr. Alton Barron came to El’s aid after a spill off a log resulted in two fractured fingers.
You can hear the full episode and we encourage you to support the band and pick up their inspiring new album via the links in the Comments below.
Congrats El and Elie — we love to see and hear our beneficiaries keep the music playing!

Look how happy we are to be in the presence of our old friend, Texas' favorite son Billy Stritch -- who dazzled alongside the talented Melissa Errico as part of Austin Cabaret Theatre's 'The Secret Diary of Mrs. Santa' at one of our fave haunts, Parker Jazz Club last month.
Team MTF is so blessed to be part of this incredible Austin music community!

Musician Treatment Foundation was founded in late 2017 as the first nonprofit of its kind – in design, scope, and breadth – to assist in providing free specialized upper limb treatment and continuity of care for needful musicians at home and on tour.
To date, MTF has made it possible for dozens of uninsured and under-insured professional musicians in Austin and NYC to receive free orthopedic surgical and nonsurgical shoulder, arm, and hand care that would otherwise have cost over $1 million in total.
Now, we are building a nationwide network of ~100 orthopedic surgeons, hand-picked for their ethics and expertise, to join our efforts and help more musicians around the country.
MTF is overseen by a distinguished board of directors that contributes keen expertise in business, design, education, healthcare, law, technology, and of course music. The board is chaired by the founder, renowned orthopedic surgeon O. Alton Barron, and includes the legendary Elvis Costello, Diana Krall, and other luminaries in their respective fields.
The mission of MTF is driven by five initiatives, you can learn about them here!
