⚡️PHYSICIANS HAVE ENTERED THE CHAT —

Yesterday, Senator Josh Hawley introduced legislation that would ban and withdraw mifepristone’s FDA approval.

Anti-abortion extremists will never be straight with you, but we will.

As actual physicians who practice actual medicine, we know this is not about safety or health. It’s about advancing a decades long agenda to ban abortion for everyone, everywhere. Study after study proves what we already know to be true: mifepristone is safe, medication abortion is safe, and people who have abortions are receiving evidence-based care.

While the introduction of this legislation does NOT immediately change mifepristone’s accessibility, it reveals that anti-abortion extremists will stop at nothing, not even lying, to push abortion out of reach.

They’ll have to get through us first.

Law enforcement does not exist to protect our communities, it exists to control and punish them.

The opposition needs you to believe law enforcement is integral to safe communities so they can weaponize it against you once they decide to strip you of your freedom. We implore you to resist, and humbly invite you to a future where you, your friends, and neighbors do not live under the constant threat of criminalization and harm.

What if we protect each other instead?
What if our imaginations were bigger than our allegiances punishment and control?
What if better things are possible?

Today, PRH Fellow Dr. Nisha Verma, testified in front of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions (HELP) Committee held a hearing to discuss the safety of medication abortion via telehealth.

Anti-abortion lawmakers are pretending medication abortion is unsafe, and that they are “concerned” that people having access to abortion care makes it easier for abusers to coerce people into abortions they don’t want.

Let’s cut the s**t.

If anti-abortion extremists are really concerned about reproductive “coercion,” they’d cease operations on all crisis pregnancy centers, which literally only exist to manipulate people out of abortions. If anti-abortion extremists were so concerned about people who are being abused, this hearing would have been about providing support to people in abusive situations.

Instead, they made it about their only goal: banning abortion for everyone, everywhere. These people are not slick. Mifepristone and misoprostol are safe and effective, and no amount of intellectual gymnastics is going to change that.
