Getting that call from school again?

“Your child had a rough day…”
“Can you come pick them up…”

And suddenly it feels like your kid is the “problem.”
They’re not.

For many autistic children, behavior isn’t defiance — it’s communication that’s being missed.

The real issue?

Most schools are reacting in the moment… instead of teaching the skills that prevent it from happening again.

That’s where the right support changes everything.
Because when a child is understood, behavior starts to make sense — and progress actually happens.

Bidirectional Naming and Relational Frame Theory: Recent Research and Conceptual Advances

Date & Time: May 8th, 2026 | 9am - 11am EST

Most clinicians talk about language development, but struggle to clearly assess or systematically build it.

This 2-hour webinar breaks down the latest research on Bidirectional Naming (BiN) and Incidental Bidirectional Naming (IncBiN), two critical repertoires behind meaningful language and learning. Learn how these concepts connect to Relational Frame Theory (RFT) and, more importantly, how to actually apply them in practice.

Join us to learn:
✅ The difference between BiN vs. IncBiN, and why it matters clinically
✅ How to assess BiN using both formal and informal strategies
✅ How to turn research into action with interventions like Multiple Exemplar Instruction (MEI)

Grateful to be part of the Autism Walk & Resource Fair 💙💛

We spent the morning connecting with families at our booth, sharing resources, and having real conversations about support beyond the classroom.

Moments like this are what community care actually looks like.

What is restraint collapse?

It’s when a child uses all their energy just to get through the day, meeting expectations, following rules, holding it together at school and then burns out by the time they get home.

That’s why some kids can do “really well” all day…but can’t handle any demands later.

It’s not sudden.

It’s not random.

It’s the result of pushing through all day with nothing left in the tank.

If your child is thriving at school but breaking down at home, restraint collapse might be something to consider.

Understanding this changes how you respond—and how you support them.

Most parents don’t realize this:

If your child has an IEP (Individualized Education Program), schools are legally required to provide every service listed — including speech therapy, occupational therapy (OT), counseling, and ABA.
When services are missed, delayed, or inconsistent, your child is losing critical developmental time — and that gap adds up fast.

🚨 This is more common than you think.
If your child isn’t receiving the services on their IEP, you have options — and you don’t have to figure it out alone.

At Manhattan Psychology Group, we help families:

• Understand their IEP rights

• Track missed or inconsistent services

• Take action to secure the support their child needs

• Access appropriate school placements and services
👉 If something feels off with your child’s IEP, it probably is.

Your child hit another kid at school… and suddenly YOU feel like the problem.

That call from school?

It’s designed (intentionally or not) to make you defensive.

But reacting emotionally is exactly how parents lose control of the situation.

Here’s what actually works instead 👇
Before you panic or punish, ask:

• What happened RIGHT before the hitting? (trigger)

• What was my child trying to communicate?

• Are there social struggles or peer issues?

• Did something change in the classroom (rules, routine, expectations)?

• Do we need an IEP / team meeting to address this properly?

Hitting isn’t random.

It’s a skill gap, not a character flaw.
And if you don’t investigate it properly, it doesn’t just “go away”…

It turns into bigger behavior issues, school problems, and labels your child unfairly.

👉 The best parents don’t get defensive. They get strategic.

If your child’s IEP isn’t leading to progress, it’s time to take a closer look.

An IEP should be a plan that works—not something you just accept.

Schools are still managing behavior the same way…
and wondering why nothing changes.

Taking away privileges. Sending kids out. Repeating reminders.

That’s not a behavior plan. That’s a punishment loop.

Behavior is communication.

If a child is shutting down or acting out, there’s a reason—and it’s our job to figure out why.

If you’re sitting in IEP meetings and not getting real answers, you’re allowed to ask better questions.
