A mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment while gently acknowledging and being curious about one's feelings, thoughts, body sensations, senses, and external environment.

By practicing mindfulness and being aware of your physical and mental state in the moment, you can increase the likelihood of responding in adaptive and healthy ways during difficult situations.

Healthy boundaries are necessary for healthy relationships. There are two types of boundaries: internal and external.

Internal boundaries are between you and you. This might look like self-discipline, physical and emotional self-regulation, impulse control, or time management.

External boundaries are between you and others - whether with friends, co-workers, family or your partner. Types of external boundaries include physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and material.

It’s quite common for many people to not have boundaries due to being afraid of offending or hurting others, not wanting to appear too rigid, or not understanding the benefits of having boundaries in the first place.

Healthy boundaries create safety for yourself and for others. They provide freedom to be able to behave in ways that lead you to have life-giving relationships with others and yourself. They help you to know where you end and where another person starts. Having healthy boundaries is a way of showing respect for others and for yourself. ❤️

In times of uncertainty, it can be easy to live in a state of anxiety and fear. With social distancing, it can be easy to completely withdraw and isolate from your community.

It is during these times, however, that it is important to find ways to continue to care for your own mental health and wellbeing, and to also reach out to love and support others.

What can you do today to practice self-care and support your community?

Please reach out for support. You are not alone in this.

The New Year is around the corner and traditionally a lot of us think about resolutions or goals we want to accomplish - maybe lose weight, get a better job, or stay away from toxic relationships.

Unfortunately, we often make goals that are vague, unmeasurable, and too lofty/unrealistic with no definitive time period.

SO...let’s do something different together this 2020!!

♥️ Try a goal that is specific, measurable, attainable, and time-specific. Eg.: Going to walk 2 miles 3 days a week for the month of January.

♥️ Maybe learn something new about yourself - what are some of your strengths that you can further develop or what are areas in your life you can grow in?

♥️ Maybe try something new to create more variety and bring more vibrancy in your life! Eg. Going to a Pilates or yoga class, checking out a new restaurant, or exploring a new hiking trail.
⠀⠀
♥️ Maybe Spend Less, Save More (Time). By that I mean spend less time stressing out about the things you do not have control over, and save more time for yourself to care for not just your physical health, but your mental/emotional and spiritual health. Eg. Maybe spend 5 minutes more in the morning to pray, practice a deep breathing exercise, journal, or check-in with yourself (what are you feeling in the moment, where may your body be holding tension or tightness, what thoughts or beliefs might be running through your mind, and what do you emotionally need to be prepared for the day ahead).
⠀⠀
With that, I hope you all have a wonderful New Years! Goodbye 2019 and here we come 2020! 🙌🏽

Window of Tolerance for Emotions

What is that?! Simply put, it is a range in which we can tolerate our emotions in a regulated state.

When we are in our “window,” our nervous system is regulated. We can best process information in this state, integrate both our thoughts and feelings, and can make healthy choices for ourselves. In our “window,” we are able to be present, engaged, self-aware, mindful and connected to self and others.

More to come on this topic... but for now, my invitation to you is to notice what it feels like to be in your “window.” How does your body show up when you are engaged and connected to self and others?
