Give a penny, take a penny… but for your mental health ❤️🩹
“I’m not sad or depressed. I just don’t enjoy the things I used to.”
Sound familiar?
This experience has a name. It’s called anhedonia.
Anhedonia is the loss of interest or pleasure in things that used to bring you joy. It’s one of the most common symptoms of depression in men, but it doesn’t always look like bed rotting or sobbing. More often it’s numbness. Going through the motions.
Maybe you’ve noticed times when your hobbies felt pointless, wins didn’t really feel like wins, time with friends was draining, and even seggs felt mechanical.
A lot of men interpret this as boredom. Or laziness (it’s not).
It IS an awful cycle you can get stuck in. When you’re anhedonic, you won’t feel like doing the things that would help you feel better, so you feel worse, and then you are even less likely to do or enjoy the things that make you feel good again.
So I’m asking yall to share the small things you do that bring you joy. I’m going to put these into a list you can then download for the next time you’re numb and need a tiny spark of feeling.
