Happy new year 🎆 How are you all doing?? I’ve been away for a bit working at a DV organization and learning a lot about myself and about trauma informed care on an organizational level.

With each new year comes a potential time for self reflection and recentering what is important. For me this year is about choosing me. Not in a selfish or ego driven way but in a I’ve always put others first and cared too much about what other people think, and overextended myself in non-reciprocal relationships, and I don’t want to do that anymore type of way.

So that’s all really. I wanted to get on here to reconnect with you all and see what you might be choosing or not choosing for yourself in the upcoming year.

I have some ideas brewing for a few new offerings this year. Stay tuned if you’d like 💜

Shoutout out to everyone who feels like they’re treading water and barely keeping their head above it right now. Shoutout to everyone who is silently struggling with something. to those who feel big on the inside but don’t show it on the outside.

I hope you find spaces where you can tell your story - where people will understand and listen. I hope you find moments that feel like a buoy pulling you back to shore. I hope you find rest for the weariness.

It takes a lot of energy to fight battles that no one else sees.

Trusting others too quickly or over sharing your life experiences comes from a desire to connect with others. This can sometimes happen before the relationship is ready or before that person has earned your trust.

If you are someone who does this sometimes, me too 😁 I learned this one the hard way many times.

I’ve recently found it useful to remember to “move at the speed of trust”. Sit back and observe other people’s actions. See if they are putting in as much energy and vulnerability into the relationship as you are - to see if they are worthy of trust and access to you.

"There comes a time in the healing journey where there's an examination of the great amount of harm that is caused by societal norms and systemic trauma. Looking at how those entities have caused chronic stress and trauma in one's body is a process of understanding the origins of these norms, undoing the programing, and then letting go of all that isn't true to you."

➡️What programing or norm are you letting go of?

Have you ever wondered if yoga might be helpful on your healing journey? Do you live with many of the bodily symptoms that come from trauma? If so, you're welcome to join a five week trauma sensitive yoga class series.

Here's some info about the class series:
-We will meet once a week for five weeks and each class is one hour long.
-We meet live online via Zoom.
- You do not have to be on video or audio to participate.
-All classes will be recorded and available to you.

Something to note: according to a recent study, in a comparison with CPT (cognitive processing therapy), the gold standard in therapy treatments, TCTSY yielded quicker symptom improvement, higher participant retention, and an equally sustained effect.

If you have any questions you are always welcome to message me. Hope you can join!

Understanding our nervous systems first so that we might be able to connect with others from a place of safety in our bodies versus from a place of activation or response to trauma to me is the first step in healing. Absorbing cognitive information from a place of activation in the body won’t be easily absorbed.

When our nervous system is in a place of feeling safe, the chances of what we are learning being integrated for long term change in our bodies has a higher probability.

It’s one thing to know something in our minds but another to bring the knowing into our bodies. What I know from years of being in healing spaces is that true transformation and healing takes place when we’re able to not only know, but also integrate the knowing in to our bodies.

Healing comes in many forms, in many ways over one's journey. Kinda like a puzzle - we find pieces along the way that make sense or bring relief.

Bringing our body and its infinite and ancient wisdom into the healing equation can be useful.

If this seems interesting to you you're welcome to join my next 20 hour online training. We'll examine how trauma sensitive yoga can be a way to learn and heal through our bodies. More information in the link in my bio.

What does it mean to be trauma informed? For me, to be trauma informed has a few components. One is to know what trauma is. Second is to know how trauma shows up personally, relationally, communally, and systemically. The third part of being trauma informed is to take all of that knowledge and bring it into practice - bring it into our own bodies first. To be trauma informed is to also not recreate the dynamics of trauma. This first begins in ourselves and then with those we are in relationship with. To be trauma informed is an embodied way of living. It’s a practice to interact with first in your own body and then to extend to others.

If you’re interested in learning more about what it means to be trauma informed and how an evidence based healing modality (TC-Trauma Sensitive Yoga) can address the symptoms associated with trauma. I’d love to have you join my next 20 hour foundational trauma sensitive yoga training.

This Trauma Sensitive Yoga model (TCTSY) that you will become acquainted with is based on decades of research and practice. This training takes an intersectional approach to examine how trauma manifests in the body, mind, relationships. Training participants are given a research based approach to understanding trauma informed best practices while also gaining knowledge in how to not recreate and replicate trauma through the TCTSY model. Additionally, trauma informed - body centered movement/yoga, breath, and grounding practices will be explored as a pathway towards healing in the body.

This training and the knowledge that you will receive can be integrated into any current scope of practice or work. Past training participants come from many different personal and professional backgrounds including but not limited to: therapists, social workers, educators, body workers, yoga instructors, health care workers, and many on their own personal healing journeys. Every single body is welcome and invited to attend this training. No prior yoga experience is needed. If you'd like more information, you're welcome to message me or reach out on my website via the link in my bio. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you!

On Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. day let us always remember the legacy and teachings of Dr. King and let’s also give people their flowers while they’re still here!

As said today and every day is a great day to “quietly observe, learn, amplify, and open your wallets”.
