As a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist specializing in digestive health, I help people who have either been diagnosed with conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, celiac disease, gastroparesis, and others (or who are experiencing digestive symptoms with no apparent cause) find relief. I am very good at helping patients identify their food sensitivities and intolerances, and build a diet plan consisting of the very best foods they can eat for their digestive and overall health. The results of eating the right foods for your body will amaze you! Nutrition consultations are provided in person at my Phoenix and Mesa offices, over the phone, or via Skype. I also help people who may not necessarily have digestive-related concerns, but who want to be healthier or address other symptoms. I teach patients how to tune into their body and use mindfulness to guide their eating and lifestyle habits. I also provide nutrition education and help to clarify the mixed messages that are out there regarding nutrition and various diets. These services are provided in-person via individual consultation, over the phone, or online. Click the “Refine” tab to learn more about my online nutrition and lifestyle coaching program.

Feeling sick after eating shouldn’t feel confusing, discouraging, or make you wonder what you’re doing wrong, but for so many people, that’s exactly what happens.

Here’s the truth: reacting to foods that are considered “healthy” doesn’t mean your body is betraying you. It’s often a sign that your gut is struggling with something underneath the surface, not the food itself.

And when you understand why your body is reacting the way it is, everything changes, the fear eases, the guessing stops, and clarity replaces restriction.

In Episode 86 of Gut Health Dialogues, I share what sulfur actually is, why it shows up in so many everyday foods, and how a short, strategic approach can help you understand what your gut has been trying to communicate all along.

If you’ve been dealing with fatty liver, stubborn belly weight, bloating, or elevated liver enzymes, and nothing seems to fully move the needle, you’re not imagining it.

This usually isn’t just a liver problem.
And it’s not just a gut problem either.

It’s often what happens when the gut and liver are overwhelmed at the same time — and instead of clearing waste efficiently, the body starts recycling it. That overload shows up as insulin resistance, inflammation, digestive symptoms, and frustrating labs.

This is why “eat less,” “detox,” or chasing one symptom at a time rarely brings lasting change.
When we support the gut first, the liver doesn’t have to work so hard and healing becomes more possible.

If you’re ready to understand what your body has been trying to communicate and learn how to make fatty liver healing easier, I walk through it step by step in my Gut–Liver Masterclass. Click here: https://alyssa-simpson.mykajabi.com/monthly-gut-check-video-sign-up-the-gut-liver-connection

You don’t need more pressure.
You need the right support. 💚

When you’re dealing with fatty liver, it’s easy to feel like you’ve done something wrong — or that healing requires extreme changes you can’t sustain.

But the truth is, your liver is incredibly responsive when it gets the right support.

You don’t need perfection.
You don’t need harsh detoxes.
You don’t even need dramatic weight loss.

What you do need is clarity, consistency, and a plan that works with your body — not against it.

These small, research-backed shifts are often where healing actually begins. And when you stack them gently over time, labs change, energy improves, and confidence comes back.

If you’re ready for a simple, realistic place to start, we created a FREE 7-day fatty liver plan to help you take that first step — without overwhelm. When you’re told you have fatty liver and your liver enzymes are high, it can feel overwhelming fast.
Especially when the only advice you’re given is “lose weight” — with no real guidance on how to do that in a way that actually supports your liver.

But once we stop chasing extremes and start supporting the whole metabolic picture, things begin to change.

Here are a few simple foundations that helped her heal and that we use every day in practice:
1. Blood sugar balance comes first.
2. Fatty liver is closely tied to insulin resistance. Stabilizing meals with enough protein, fiber, and healthy fats gives the liver space to release stored fat instead of making more.
3. Food quality matters more than restriction.
4. This isn’t about cutting everything out. It’s about choosing liver-supportive foods that calm inflammation and improve metabolism over time.
5. Small shifts add up quickly.
6. Even modest, consistent changes — not extreme diets — can lead to meaningful improvements in liver enzymes within a few months.
7. The gut and liver heal together.
8. When digestion is supported and inflammation is lowered, the liver can finally do its job more efficiently.
9. Healing works best when it’s sustainable.
10. When food supports your body instead of stressing it, energy improves, labs shift, and confidence returns.

If you’ve been told you have fatty liver (MASLD / NAFLD), this matters 👇
This is not entirely a liver problem. Fatty Liver means your metabolism is asking for support.

If sugar feels impossible to resist, there’s likely a biological reason - not a mindset issue. Gut imbalances like yeast or microbial overgrowth can powerfully influence cravings and create a cycle that feels impossible to break.

In this episode, Dr. Joy explains why cravings often come from the gut, not the brain.

This is why so many people feel like their body is working against them when the root problem is actually in the gut.

In Episode #82, “Gut Health, Hormones & Toxic Load: The Real Reasons Weight Won’t Budge,” Dr. Joy Ostroff shares the gut–weight connection most people (and many doctors) overlook. She dives into nervous system overwhelm, toxic load, and why healing feels so hard when your body never gets to exhale. Click the link in my bio to tune in to the episode.

If weight keeps creeping up and you can’t explain why, your gut is sending you a message that imbalances in the microbiome are quietly influencing inflammation, metabolism, and even blood sugar.

If the first thing you do every morning is step on the scale and that number decides whether you’re “good” or “failing” that day, we need to talk.

Your body cannot lose fat overnight. So when the scale goes up, it’s usually reflecting:
• Inflammation
• Hormone shifts
• Water retention
• Digestion (or constipation)

And if that number stresses you out, cortisol rises, digestion slows, and inflammation increases.
Which makes fat loss and gut healing harder.

For women dealing with bloating, IBS, hormone imbalance, or chronic stress, daily weigh-ins often keep you stuck in the very cycle you’re trying to escape.

If the scale has been dictating your mood, your progress, or your self-worth, my conversation with Dr. Joy Ostroff will feel like a breath of fresh air.

People with food allergies, celiac disease, and dietary restrictions don’t “take chances” when choosing where to eat.

In this episode of Gut Health Dialogues, Dylan McDonnell (Founder of Foodini) shares why transparency matters, not just for safety, but for trust, loyalty, and long-term business success.

Getting a diagnosis shouldn’t leave you feeling confused, overwhelmed, or quietly blaming yourself, but for so many people with fatty liver, that’s exactly what happens.

Here’s the truth: fatty liver isn’t a personal failure. It’s your body responding to signals it hasn’t been taught how to regulate yet.

And once you understand why it’s happening, everything shifts, from fear to clarity, and from stuck to empowered.

In Episode 83, I break down what fatty liver actually means, what’s driving it beneath the surface, and how food and lifestyle can help your liver do what it’s designed to do: heal.
