February is Recreational Therapy Month!
This year, the profession is highlighting Recreational Therapy’s essential role in promoting social connectedness. In 2023, the U.S. Surgeon General identified loneliness and social isolation as urgent public health concerns. Recreational Therapists address these challenges by using purposeful, evidence-based activities to foster meaningful connections, community participation, and overall well-being.
Humans are wired to connect. Social connectedness helps buffer stress, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, and even improves physical health. Quality of life increases as individuals strengthen their sense of connectedness to self, to others, and to the world around them.
