Tips for Navigating the Holidays While Pregnant:

✓ Follow the 80/20 rule: Eat a nutritious, balanced diet 80% of the time.
✓ Ask friends or family for help.
✓ Make time for self-care.
✓ Travel safely. Most women can safely travel through most of their pregnancies, but travel may not be recommended for women with pregnancy complications. Some pregnant women are more prone to blood clots, which may occur on long trips. Walk around every hour or so to keep blood flowing normally.
✓ Get moving: Physical activity during pregnancy can counteract some of the discomforts of pregnancy, it can lower stress, and even reduce the risk of complications like preeclampsia.
✓ Manage stress: Holiday obligations paired with the fluctuating hormones and physical discomforts of pregnancy are a recipe for increased stress.

We test all of our pregnant patients for gestational diabetes because women who have never had diabetes may develop it during pregnancy. With close monitoring from your Maricopa OBGYN provider and a healthy diet and exercise, gestational diabetes can be well controlled, resulting in a healthy baby and delivery.

Did You Know?
☑️ GD typically doesn't have any symptoms.
☑️ GD can go away after pregnancy but about 50% of women go on to develop type 2 diabetes.
☑️ Women with GD should have their blood sugars checked every 1-3 years after pregnancy.
