Dr. Altha J. Stewart made history as the first Black president of the American Psychiatric Association. A fierce advocate for equity in mental health care, her career has focused on reducing disparities and expanding access to treatment for marginalized communities.
Dr. Stewart has consistently emphasized that mental health care must be accessible, culturally competent, and rooted in dignity for all people, especially those most often left behind.
Leadership matters. Representation matters. And Dr. Stewart’s impact continues to move the field forward.
