The $7,000 hearing aids gathering dust in your drawer aren't the problem.
I've seen it dozens of times: Someone buys the "best" hearing aids money can buy, wears them for a few weeks, then tosses them in a drawer forever.
Meanwhile, their neighbor is thriving with mid-tier devices they've worn religiously for three years.
What's the difference?
The fitting.
Here's what most people don't realize: A basic hearing aid properly fitted to YOUR unique hearing loss, YOUR lifestyle, and YOUR listening environments will outperform premium devices that were rushed through a cookie-cutter fitting process.
Think of it like prescription glasses. The frames don't matter if the prescription is wrong.
A comprehensive fitting includes:
✅ Real ear measurement (verifying the aids are programmed correctly for YOUR ears)
✅ Multiple follow-up adjustments and validation measures as your brain adapts
✅ Training on how to use them in challenging situations
✅ Ongoing support when life changes
The tech matters. But the professional guiding you through the process matters MORE.
Before you upgrade to the latest model, ask yourself: "Did I give my current hearing aids a fair chance with proper professional support?"
If the answer is no, you don't have a hearing aid problem. You have a fitting problem.

FREE Webinar! "Modern Hearing Aid Features Explained"
I recently sat down with Barry Seifer, the co-founder and CEO of SoundBites, to explore one of the most exciting areas in hearing science: hearing preservation. This conversation absolutely blew me away.
After learning about SoundBites’ decades of research, and the real-world impact ACEMg is having on hearing function, I knew I had to bring Barry onto the show.
In this interview, Barry and I dive deep into:
🔹 How oxidative stress damages the cochlea
🔹 The origins of ACEMg and why its formula is so unique
🔹 Why hearing preservation is the future of audiology
🔹 What their research reveals about tinnitus, hyperacusis, and hidden hearing loss
🔹 Real-world results from ongoing clinical trials
🔹 And how SoundBites may help slow, stop, or even improve hearing function in certain individuals
I’m genuinely excited about what SoundBites is bringing to the hearing-care world—not as a replacement for hearing care, but as an entirely new pillar of protection and prevention.
If you’ve ever wondered whether you can preserve the hearing you still have…this conversation is absolutely worth your time.
I toured Oticon's secret R&D labs. They didn't let me record video, but here's what I saw.

Thanksgiving can be noisy - multiple conversations at once, dishes clanking, kids running around, and football on in the background.
For anyone with hearing loss (or wearing hearing aids), that environment can turn a joyful gathering into an exhausting guessing game.
So here’s a simple, high-impact tip you can use or share:
👉 Seat Yourself Smartly: Back to a Wall, Face the Room
When you sit with your back toward a wall, you block a huge portion of the background noise coming from behind you.
And when you face the room, your ears, and your hearing aids, can focus on the voices in front of you.
It’s a tiny shift, but it makes a massive difference in comfort and clarity.
Other quick tips:
• Pick spots with good lighting so you can read faces.
• Turn off the TV during dinner (trust us, you’ll have better conversations).
• If you’re wearing hearing aids, use your “Restaurant” or “Noise” program.
Happy Thanksgiving!

I drive from East Mesa to see Dr. Olson. It's worth the drive because Dr. Olson truly works to get you not a good fit but a great fit. Watch his YouTube videos and you see that he does his homework. He's a one man shop but that's a benefit in getting personalized care. I've been to three audiologists this year and wasn't happy until I found Dr. Olson.
