Those first moments after birth are incredibly special. It’s a time for baby to settle onto mom’s chest, for everyone to take a deep breath, and for that first bond to begin. 🤍

At Blossom, we intentionally protect this time. We prioritize immediate skin-to-skin contact and allow families to have uninterrupted moments together while baby adjusts to life outside the womb.

Only after baby has had time to rest with mom and begin that connection do we perform the newborn exam. And even then, it all happens right at mom’s side. Baby never needs to leave.

During the exam, our midwives gently check baby from head to toe, listening to the heart and lungs, checking reflexes, measuring vitals, and making sure everything looks healthy and strong.

It’s a calm, careful process designed to support both safety and bonding. Because those first moments together matter more than anything. 💛

Blossom mom here 🖐

One of the things I didn’t expect after having my baby at Blossom was how special it would feel to come back and visit the place where she was born.

Giving birth here is something I’ll truly never forget. It was truly a one of a kind experience, and the midwives here are AMAZING. So supportive, kind, caring, and patient. They genuinely care about the families that walk through these doors. I know first hand how that kind of environment makes all the difference.

I also happen to be Blossom’s social media manager, which is why you see me posting here sometimes 😁 But my love for this place started long before that as a mom who gave birth here.

✨What symptoms are normal vs. concerning?
✨ What supplements do you recommend during (and after) pregnancy?
✨ What tests or screenings do you recommend and why?
✨ What comfort measures do you offer during labor?
✨ What are signs that labor is starting?
✨ What happens right after the baby is born?
✨ How do you monitor the baby during labor?
✨ What should I pack in my hospital bag?
✨ What should I do if my water breaks?

Explaining your birth center choice to friends and family like…😅

Here’s some helpful language to use:

Birth centers offer licensed care, evidence-based practices, and a supportive environment, with safety always at the center of every decision.

But remember, at the end of the day, you don’t need to convince anyone. Just share what matters to you.

If you ever need help explaining your decision to a partner, spouse, or family member, we’re here for those conversations too. 🌸

Our Medical Director, Dr. Nichelle Whitehead, is an in-network provider with several major insurance plans, and Blossom is also contracted as an in-network facility with many of them. That means, depending on your plan, insurance may help cover both your provider and facility care.
