💭 Stop scrolling. Pause, take a breath, and reflect: What’s one thing you keep telling yourself?

The loudest voice you’ll ever hear is the one in your head. Is yours a cheerleader or a harsh critic?

If yours is the latter, here’s how you can reprogram your self-talk:

• Cultivate an attitude of gratitude by listing everything you’re thankful for each day. ✍️

• Stop comparing. Comparison is the thief of joy. 🤨

• Use affirmations every day, such as “I am beautiful,” “I am strong,” and “I am loved and worthy.” This helps you replace self-defeating thoughts with ones that uplift and empower you.

• Hang out with positive people. 😀As the saying goes, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” You are one of those.

• Move your body regularly 🏃 Exercise releases endorphins, which can help improve your state of mind and your internal dialogue.

When you encounter a distressing or frightening situation, how do you usually react? Do you lash out, run, or get stuck in place? Your reactions are essentially your survival instincts kicking into high gear, referred to as a trauma response—your brain’s way of protecting you from what it perceives as a threat based on what you experienced in the past.

Trauma leaves a biological imprint that changes how both your brain and body respond to stress. Here are the different types of trauma responses:

⚔️ Fight – snapping, arguing, pushing back hard
🏃 Flight – running, avoiding, or drowning yourself in work
🧊 Freeze – mind blank, body heavy
🤲 Fawn – people-pleasing, ignoring one’s own needs, difficulty setting boundaries
🪫 Fine – shutting down emotions, pretending you’re okay, moving through life on autopilot
😵 Faint – dizziness, spacing out, or blacking out altogether

Recognizing your trauma responses is the first step toward personal growth and healing.
Need help? Turn to us here at 180 Mental Health and Wellness. Our experts can help you understand the impact of trauma on how you regulate your emotions, learn healthy coping strategies, and cultivate self-compassion, so you can move past survival mode on to a life of healing and empowerment.

🗣️ We often think of bullying as something that only happens to children, but it happens to adults, as well. In fact, 30% of adults in the United States experience it in the workplace.

Workplace bullying involves humiliation, exclusion, sabotage, or intimidation, creating a toxic atmosphere that impacts employee morale and productivity, team dynamics, and overall organizational performance, and ultimately causes good employees to leave.

This National Bullying Prevention Month, initiate kindness and set the tone for a healthy workplace culture: check in on a coworker and speak up when you witness mistreatment. Bullies need accountability and opportunities to change just as much as victims need support. The culture you allow is the culture you help create—choose one built on respect and kindness, not hostility and fear.

It’s Tell-the-Truth Tuesday. In observance of ADHD Awareness Month, let’s squash a common myth about the condition.

❌ ADHD was merely invented by large pharmaceutical companies (“Big Pharma”) to rake in money.

✅ ADHD is a legitimate, medically recognized mental disorder that affects the brain’s ability to focus, manage impulses, and organize tasks. It’s not a made-up condition, a cumulative effect of poor parenting, a character flaw, or an issue that can simply be willed away. Without proper treatment, ADHD can have a sizable impact on relationships, family dynamics, daily functioning, and quality of life.

Think you need expert care for ADHD? Reach out to us at (480) 863-5250 to schedule an appointment with one of our caring mental health experts. We provide evidence-based, personalized care in a supportive, non-judgmental environment—helping you not just manage your symptoms but reach your full potential and lead a happy, fulfilling life just like everyone else.

🛑By the time you scroll past this post, someone in this country will have been choked, beaten, or slammed against a wall by someone they care about.

But what most people don’t see is the part after leaving. For many victims, escape is not the end, but the beginning of another battle—one that involves nursing gaping emotional wounds that continue to fester long after the physical bruises fade. For many others, leaving is so dangerous it can cost them their lives.

This National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, let’s confront this horrifying ordeal that countless people, especially women, endure every single day. Let’s stand with survivors and extend a lifeline to those still trapped, helping them find their way out before the situation reaches the point of no return.

If someone you know is a victim of domestic abuse and is in immediate danger, call 911 right away. Once they’re out of danger, gently encourage them to seek professional mental health support. In the Phoenix, AZ area, their go-to is one of our specialists here at 180 Mental Health and Wellness.

Through evidence-based care, including therapy, we help domestic violence victims develop the resilience and strength to rebuild their lives and reclaim the identity and future that abuse tried to erase. Today is Bi Visibility Day—a day to celebrate, uplift, and affirm bisexual identities. But let’s be honest: visibility for bisexual folks doesn’t always come easy.

More often than not, being "too gay" for some and "not gay enough" for others goes hand in hand with rejection and the constant need to prove oneself or shrink to fit in society’s “narrow boxes.” Over time, this can gnaw away at a person's mental health—and it shows in the statistics. Bisexual individuals are at greater risk of developing anxiety, depression, and PTSD compared to both their heterosexual and homosexual peers.

At 180 Mental Health and Wellness, we offer a compassionate space where you feel seen, valued, and understood, and your identity is never questioned—only honored. We’ll provide the tools and support you need to rebuild your self-esteem, embrace your identity with confidence, and live your truth fully, boldly, and unapologetically.

And we’re back with our myth-busting series! Today, we’re unpacking one of the most common myths surrounding obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

❌ People with OCD are “neat freaks.”
✅ OCD isn’t about being fixated on tidiness. It’s a mental health disorder characterized by unwanted, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors (compulsions) aimed at relieving intense anxiety. Some people with OCD have zero cleanliness-related symptoms—their compulsions may involve constantly checking things to ensure safety, avoiding certain numbers, or repeating phrases in their minds.

Think you might be dealing with OCD? Reach out to us at (480) 863-5250 to schedule an appointment with one of our caring mental health experts. We provide evidence-based, personalized care in an environment where compassion, respect, and genuine connection reign supreme.
