Happy Sunday!

Here are 10 ways we can show true Loving Kindness to one another, and what great gifts we can share with our loved ones, over the holidays and every day! The best part about these gifts of Loving Kindness...they don't cost a dime!

1. Listen without Interrupting
2. Speak without Accusing
3. Give without Sparing
4. Pray without Ceasing
5. Answer without Arguing
6. Share without Pretending
7. Enjoy without Complaint
8. Trust without Wavering
9. Forgive without Punishing
10. Promise without Forgetting

Choose one to start with, set it as an intention and prayer, and see where it leads you! There are no boundaries to the acts of loving kindness you can give.

Blessings,

Strike A Pose!

Utthita Parsvakonasana, also known as Extended Side Angle Pose, is a yoga asana (posture) that offers a wide range of physical, mental, and emotional benefits. Physically, it fortifies lower body muscles such as quadriceps, hamstrings, and glutes, while simultaneously fostering flexibility in hips and inner thighs. This pose also initiates an expansion of the chest and shoulders, facilitating better posture. Its twisting action aids digestion, ameliorates balance, and amplifies the flow of energy.

Mentally, the posture demands concentration, which in turn mitigates stress and enhances mindfulness. Moreover, the asana nurtures a grounded sensation by establishing a connection with the earth. Through engaging the core and side body, it fosters robust breathing patterns. Consistent practice of this pose nurtures patience and resilience.

To maximize benefits and prevent injury, maintaining proper alignment is crucial, especially for newcomers or those unfamiliar with the pose. Practitioners should ensure proper alignment and consider seeking guidance from a yoga instructor, especially if new to yoga or this pose. Modify as needed to suit individual capabilities.

Meet the Teacher!

Meet April Denning! We are absolutely thrilled to welcome April, a beautiful soul and inspiring instructor, to our yoga community! She brings a wealth of radiant knowledge and positive energy, and we are incredibly grateful to have her teaching in our communities.

Here’s a little more about April…

After discovering the practice of yoga in 2019, April decided to dive into Yoga Teacher Training by completing her 200hr. With over 8 years of experience and countless continued education courses, teaching yoga has become her life’s purpose. But not just teaching yoga. She’s motivated by the opportunity to help others find their way into a sustainable and realistic yoga practice. April’s teaching style is inspired by the traditional practice of yoga with a modern spin. Incorporating elements of both effort and ease, expect unique strength-based transitions balanced by consistent breath patterns. Her goal is to help her students turn the repetition of their practice into a ritualistic experience. As a recent certified Animal Flow L-1 instructor, she incorporates even more mind-body awareness to help you take that off your mat and into daily life.

Happy Sunday,

Happy Holidays! No matter what you celebrate during the Christmas Season, Christ will always represent love and light, and love and light should be celebrated not only at Christmas but every day of the year. The Holiday Season is a time to reflect on and be intentional about those in our lives that bring us love and light, and also those in our lives that may need it. Giving gifts (whether material or gifts of love or time) makes us feel good and brings happiness.

What a great time of year to be more intentional with what we can do for one another, vs what we are going to get. No matter what traditions you celebrate at Christmas, celebrating the love and light that Christ represents is something we can all share.

Thank you for being a part of our community, we are grateful for you!

Let us help you find your breath.

Blessings,

Kary Sinkule, CEO & Founder of Yoga's Arc

Strike a Pose! Anywhere, Anytime—Outdoors or in the Office!

Uttanasana (Standing Forward Bend) is a versatile pose that offers incredible physical and mental benefits. Here are five reasons why adding forward folds to your practice, no matter where you are, can benefit your body and mind:

Hamstring Flexibility: Forward folds stretch and lengthen hamstrings, countering muscle tightness from prolonged sitting.

Spinal Decompression: Forward bends help decompress vertebral discs, relieving lower back tension.

Digestive Stimulation: The abdominal compression in forward folds massages digestive organs, aiding digestion.

Calms the Nervous System: Forward folds reduce stress and anxiety, promoting relaxation.

Improves Posture: Regular practice strengthens back muscles and enhances spinal alignment for better posture.

Forward folds are a great holiday reset, helping to quiet the mind and soothe the nervous system. It's important to approach forward folds mindfully, and we are here to provide certified guidance to help you or your community reach its goals safely.

Meet the Teacher!

Meet Paige Carpenter-Swain, one of our incredible 300-Hour YTT 2023 graduates! Paige is a dedicated instructor and plays a key role in Yoga’s Arc’s programs at Perryville Women’s Prison. Her passion for making yoga accessible to underserved communities is truly inspiring.

A little more about Paige…

Paige began her yoga journey as a student in Phoenix in 2017. Immediately falling in love with the practice, she knew she wanted to share its benefits for both the body and the mind, believing fully that yoga is for ANYbody.

Holding a Master's Degree in Counseling with a focus in Trauma Counseling, Paige first focused her yoga training on the healing process, completing a 50-hour Trauma Informed YTT and a 25-hour Trauma Sensitive Restorative YTT with Eleanor Bramwell, founder of BodyWise Foundation.

She continued to expand her teaching, completing a 25-hour Aerial YTT at Elevate Yoga (led by Holly Dison) and a 200-hour YTT with Vanessa Running (Twine Yoga School). She later added a 25-hour Mobility Specialist certification and, most recently, completed her 300-hour YTT with Yoga’s Arc.

In 2022, Paige completed her Level 1 and 2 Reiki Practitioner training. She believes Reiki is the art of healing oneself and others, supporting mental, emotional, physical, and relationship challenges with its infinite power and wisdom.

Paige is passionate about helping members through their personal yoga journeys, teaching students at varying levels to meet them where they are on their path.

Happy Sunday,

“Remember that a dark shadow is an indication of the light around you.” Bhante Sujatha

The Holidays are such a beautiful time of year to see all the Christmas Lights shining bright at night as we walk and drive the neighborhoods that surround us, and it is such a special time of year for so much light to shine.

No matter what we celebrate or what our traditions are, we can work at practicing gratitude and filling our cups with positivity. The more we fill our cups so we can do the same in return, and share the light that people share with us. It is truly the spirit of giving, and sharing your light can be the best gift ever.

Our light can be shared by letting someone cut in line and traffic, smiling at a stranger, apologizing even if you don't feel responsible for an accident, listening when someone needs an ear, or donating a meal or bill to someone who has a basic need to be fulfilled.

Without the darkness, we would never experience the light. We are required to go into the dark to experience the bright lights the world has to offer, this is the yin to the yang, and it is part of embracing life knowing that nothing lasts forever, not even even the darkness.

May this new year be filled with love, light and boundless gratitude.

Blessings,

Kary Sinkule, CEO & Founder of Yoga's Arc

Your Holiday Stress Survival Kit: The Power of Mala Beads

The holiday season is a beautiful time, but let's be honest—it’s also a marathon of to-do lists, crowded stores, and family obligations that can leave your nervous system frazzled.

If you’re looking for a simple, portable tool to ground yourself and reclaim your center in the chaos, reach for your mala beads.

What is a Mala?

A mala is a string of 108 beads traditionally used in meditation to count breaths or mantras. It's not just jewelry; it’s an anchor for your attention.

Why Use Them During the Holidays?

Instant Focus: When your mind starts racing over shopping lists or awkward conversations, simply holding the beads pulls your attention back to the present moment.

Repetitive Calm: Moving your thumb over each bead establishes a repetitive, rhythmic movement—a natural soothing mechanism for the "fight or flight" response.

Mindful Pause: It forces you to take a non-negotiable mental break, even if only for 60 seconds, which can prevent overwhelm.

How to Practice:

Hold the mala in one hand. Starting next to the Guru bead (the large center bead), use your thumb to gently pull the first bead toward you. Close your eyes and repeat a simple phrase like, “I am calm,” or “Breathe in, breathe out.” Move to the next bead and repeat.

Make your mala your holiday grounding tool! Give yourself the gift of presence this year.

Reach out to learn more about how we can help you strenthen your practice! Yoga Teacher Trainings are starting again soon.

Yoga’s Arc

We were born out of a passion for outreach. After practicing yoga for the last 20 years, Kary Sinkule began wondering how she could bring yoga to those who need it most- the overworked, the unable, and the under-served. To reach these people, convenience was the name of the game. The movement had to be fueled by flexibility and a willingness to join people in every step of the journey. So we thought outside the four walls of our studio and created Yoga's Arc.

A year later, we're even more energized to keep changing the mindset of what yoga can look like. To us, yoga looks like coworkers sharing in morning rejuvenation. Yoga looks like a healing breakthrough for a stroke survivor in her own living room. Yoga looks exactly how you envision it. With more than 20 instructors across the Valley, we're growing fast, and we're excited to meet you wherever you are in your yoga journey.
