As a first-generation physician who grew up and attended medical school in Egypt, Dr. Mustafa Suppah brings a unique perspective to medicine — one shaped by different systems, diverse patient populations, and an unwavering commitment to accessible, equitable care.

Now, as an aspiring cardiologist and chief resident in Phoenix, he's applying his lived experience directly to the practice of medicine. At the same time, he's balancing something equally rewarding: fatherhood.

In his interview for ArMA's Member Spotlight series, Dr. Suppah reflects on balancing life and work as a father, what he's learned as a young leader in organized medicine, and how the next generation of physicians must push for smarter, more compassionate healthcare systems.

The Arizona Medical Association is proud to uphold more than a century of unwavering commitment to making our communities safer, healthier, and happier — a value we share with members of Arizona's 57th State Legislature.

Our 2026 Legislative Reception celebrated this decades-long commitment and reinforced a fundamental truth: healthcare in Arizona can only improve when the physician community and lawmakers work together, hand in hand.

We are grateful to the legislators who joined us to strengthen relationships and learn more about ArMA's ambitious legislative priorities: insurance transparency, workforce solutions, and patient protections.

And, a special thank you to the medical organizations that co-hosted and supported our annual reception. By coming together, we're proactively redefining Arizona's healthcare system. 💪

In her interview, Dr. Lee-Davisson reflects on finding her calling in surgery, how she applies the concept of humanism in her daily practice, and why physicians must think bigger.

World-class education empowers world-class patient care!

On Healthcare Continuing Education Professionals Day, the Arizona Medical Association joins the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education - ACCME in celebrating programs that support physicians’ life-long learning.

The Department of Psychiatry at the of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson is one such outstanding program. The department continues to develop timely, high-quality programming to help physicians address and treat patients’ mental healthcare needs.

As a result, hundreds of physicians from diverse specialties have expanded and honed their knowledge in psychiatry, addiction medicine, perinatal psychiatry, and more. The impact of this education on patient care will be felt for years, which is why ArMA and our Accreditation & Medical Education Committee proudly awarded the department our C.H. William Ruhe Award in 2025.

We are grateful to the within UA COMT’s Department of Psychiatry and beyond that work diligently behind the scenes to move healthcare boldly forward. Thank you!

The relationship between physicians and patients is built on trust and compassion. This trust and compassion are central to ensuring patients have the information they need about their health to make the decisions that are right for them. As partners in health, physicians make this happen.

Fifty years ago, the Arizona Medical Association and our physician community helped launch MICA, a medical malpractice insurance company that continues to change the profession of medicine for the better — because it was built by physicians, for physicians.

To mark this milestone, MICA is offering a $50 discount to the first 100 full-time physicians who join the ArMA community in 2026. It's one of the many ways MICA is honoring the spirit and dedication of the community that started it all.

Together, we’ve shaped the past 50 years of healthcare in Arizona. Help us shape the next 50 by joining ArMA today: https://lnkd.in/dz7N7ysc
