Fifty years ago, the Arizona Medical Association and our physician community helped launch MICA, a medical malpractice insurance company that continues to change the profession of medicine for the better — because it was built by physicians, for physicians.

For Dr. Lindsay Ackerman, the reward of practicing medicine lies in authentic connections with her patients.

These long-standing relationships keep her motivated as the founder of Dermatology Specialists, now a part of US Dermatology Partners. They also drive her to do more, such as her initiative to advance care through SKINTELLAGENT, a medical docuseries that explains what skin can reveal about our health.

In her interview for ArMA's Member Spotlight series, Dr. Ackerman reflects on how informal decisions can be some of life's most meaningful and how advocacy empowers her to change the lives of patients — even those she'll never meet.

Her journey as a board-certified dermatologist, physician advocate, and passionate educator has taught her many things, including the importance of "just going for it."

Precepted an Arizona medical student recently? The Arizona Medical Association wants to put $1,000 in your pocket as a thank-you for dedicating your time, talent, and energy to mentoring the next generation of physicians!

You qualify for our Preceptorship Grant if you have an active medical license and have provided uncompensated, voluntary mentoring to a medical student enrolled in an Arizona program for four or more weeks.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and the process is simple — just a few details about your preceptorship and basic documentation. Plus, your grant funding is completely unrestricted!
