During this week of giving thanks, AzAAP is so grateful to the hundreds of pediatric healthcare professionals that have made lasting impact on the lives of young children and their families through the Reach Out and Read Arizona program. As National Substance Use Prevention Month ends, AzAAP's Emotional and Behavioral Health Committee has one final recommendation for clinicians and the families they serve. The National Council for Mental Wellbeing - Getting Candid is a great resource for clinicians or youth serving staff, patients and parents. It has tools that support talking to teens about substance use, motivational interviewing, and framing conversations in straightforward, non-judgmental ways, meeting youth where they are at on their own terms. It includes multiple fact sheets written for youth and parents.

This project aims to give providers and other adults the tools to talk to young people about substance use directly.
