We’re thrilled to share the new "Best Eyes for Life" campaign from Prevent Blindness. This fun initiative features animated duo Iris and Cornelius to show us how easy (and important!) it is to prioritize eye health.

Through the adventures of animated besties Iris and Cornelius, this initiative shines a light on why proactive eye care is so vital—especially for little learners.

Focus areas include:
🍎 Eating for healthy eyes.
⚾️ Staying safe during sports and play.
📚 The link between clear vision and learning.

Let’s help our little ones see their brightest future!

April is Women’s Eye Health and Safety Month. Did you know that women are more likely to experience vision loss, but also handle the majority of family health decisions?

To all the moms, grandmas, and caregivers out there: Protecting YOUR vision is just as important as protecting theirs. When you see clearly, you can lead the way for your little ones.

Is your child a "squinter" or a "book-hugger"? Sometimes the signs of a vision problem are subtle. Keep an eye out for:

🚩 Frequent eye rubbing or headaches.
🚩 Sitting very close to the TV or holding books right up to their face.
🚩 Tilting their head or covering one eye to see better.

If you notice these behaviors, it might be time for a check-up!

Too much time indoors and intensive near-vision activities are increasing the risk of nearsightedness (aka myopia) in children. Taking regular breaks and encouraging more time outside are simple steps we can take to protect their vision.

At Eyes On Learning, we’re narrowing the lens on a critical issue: children's vision health.

Undetected vision problems are a major barrier to development, yet they are often the most treatable. We’re making sure every child in Arizona has the clear sight they need to reach their full potential.

Did you know that April is Sports Eye Safety Month? Sports-related eye injuries are a major concern during adolescence—especially in high-impact favorites like basketball, baseball and soccer.

To minimize the risk, switch to protective eyewear (like polycarbonate goggles) specifically designed for athletics. They’re virtually unbreakable and built for the hustle.

For outdoor sports, UV-protective sunglasses are essential. They block harmful rays that can lead to long-term damage later in life. A little protection now preserves a lifetime of clear vision!

Today is National D.E.A.R. Day, and we’re focusing on how clear vision and literacy go hand-in-hand!

So, grab a book, find a cozy spot, and Drop Everything and Read! Parent Tip: If you notice your little one squinting or holding their book a bit too close, it might be time for a vision check. Let’s make sure those bright eyes are ready for every chapter.

This week, we celebrated the Eyes On Learning 10-Year Anniversary Vision Forum—a memorable day honoring our history and the work ahead for children’s vision health.

The highlight was presenting our first-ever "Eyes On Learning Champion" awards to two incredible, long-time partners: Roy Pringle, COO of Vitalyst Health Foundation AZ, and Donna Harris, board president of Arizona Lions Vision and Hearing Foundation MD21. Their years of support have been truly transformative.

It was extra special to have Dr. Sue Pepin—who established EOL 10 years ago when she was president & CEO of Piper Trust—join us to present these surprise honors.

Huge thanks to our director, Laura Smith, for leading such a successful convening. Here’s to many more years of helping kids see their bright futures!
