Arizona Chapter National Safety Council Educating and motivating people to lead safer and healthier lives. Arizona Chapter National Safety Council (ACNSC) was originally founded in 1949.

It is a locally controlled Arizona not-for-profit Corporation [501(C) 3]. Our mission is to arouse an maintain the interest of the people of the State of Arizona in accident prevention and health enhancement. In the late 1970’s, ACNSC developed the first defensive driving point reduction program in Arizona setting the standard for ticket dismissal programs. Among other successful driving programs,

ACNSC also provides a variety of advanced safety courses to provide certification for those who share the same passion to better the lives of others. These courses include First Aid, CPR, & AED instructor and student courses, Defensive Driving student courses, and various Workplace Safety-related courses. Other advanced safety courses include certifications in Pediatric CPR, Basic Life Support (Healthcare), Forklift/Lift Truck Operator, Professional Truck Driver (PTD), Principles of Occupational Safety and Health (POSH), Safety Management Techniques (SMT), and Safety Training Methods (STM) to name a few. Congratulations to Dave Schad, honored at our 2026 Southwest Safety Conference as a Howard Pyle Safety Award winner!

With more than 30 years in safety, Dave has built a career focused on helping others.

At Terros Health, he strengthened safety culture, reduced incidents, and made safety part of daily operations.

Beyond the workplace, he created a statewide opioid response training program, reaching more than 16,000 people and distributing nearly 27,000 Narcan kits.

His work is saving lives across Arizona.

Congratulations to Darin Perkins, honored at our 2026 Southwest Safety Conference as a Howard Pyle Safety Award winner!

Darin has spent more than 35 years advancing workplace safety across Arizona. From his time at ADOSH, where he identified and addressed serious hazards in the field, to leading the agency as Division Director, his work has protected countless workers.

At Central Arizona Project, he built a culture where safety is shared, practical, and part of daily operations. Even in retirement, he continues to support statewide safety efforts, including heat and trenching guidance.

Arizona is safer because of his work.

Congratulations to Chris Kriebel, honored at our 2026 Southwest Safety Conference as a Howard Pyle Safety Award winner!

At the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management, Chris built the agency’s first centralized safety program from the ground up.

He developed job hazard analyses, created a comprehensive safety manual, improved facility safety, and secured life-saving equipment and training.

Most importantly, he built a culture of safety through a strong, active safety committee.

His work continues to impact safety across Arizona’s public sector.

Congratulations to Cassandra Johnston, Traffic Education Program Manager for the City of Glendale, Arizona - Government honored at our 2026 Southwest Safety Conference as a Howard Pyle Safety Award winner!

When Glendale faced one of the highest pedestrian fatality rates in the nation, Cassandra took action.

Through persistence and creative outreach, she brought Alive at 25 into all nine Glendale high schools, reaching more than 2,000 students each year.

Her work is making a difference. Since full implementation, data shows a decrease in pedestrian and vehicle-related fatalities.

Her impact is shaping safer roads and stronger communities.
