Ultrasounds are an essential part of obstetric care! They allow for your OBGYN to check in on the baby, see the baby’s growth and development, and determine how the pregnancy is going. They also determine if additional testing is needed for a full picture of both you and your baby’s health during pregnancy.

If you are less than 14 weeks pregnant a va**nal ultrasound will help us get the best information. Women greater than 14 weeks will have an ultrasound through the abdomen. At 18-20 weeks another ultrasound is done to more thoroughly evaluate your pregnancy. This ultrasound will confirm you due date, locate the placenta, measure the fluid in the uterus and survey the baby. Most of the time the sonographer can determine the s*x of the baby at this visit.

Let’s talk about managing your monthly hormonal fluctuations!

It is normal for women to experience fluctuations when it comes to their hormones and monthly menstrual cycles during their reproductive years. Hormones such as Estrogen and Progesterone rise and fall in a coordinated pattern, preparing the body for potential pregnancy. Symptoms like premenstrual syndrome (PMS), including bloating, mood swings, and cramps, are common but there are ways to alleviate these unwanted symptoms!

Hot Tip: Tracking menstrual cycles can help women anticipate and manage symptoms. Regular physical activity, a healthy diet, and stress management techniques such as yoga or meditation can alleviate PMS symptoms. For more severe cases, consulting with your NHWC healthcare provider can provide additional strategies or treatments.

“I rate this office a 5/5! I chose Dr.Reyes-Hailey from Google based on reviews and research. I moved from Detroit, Mi about 27 weeks pregnant and received the rest of my care here. I was a high risk (Due to infant growth restriction) and this office along with fetal imaging took every precaution necessary to make sure me and my baby were healthy and sound! I was deemed with a normal pregnancy by week 37, the baby gained weight and that was more than enough for me. I was also nervous about my C-section but Dr. Hailey and Dr. Webb did an amazing job! I would not recommend another office! Everyone in this building is nice and experienced. I am grateful to had found them. I am 2 weeks postpartum and my little guy is doing well. I couldn't ask for a better outcome!”

As you move past the halfway point of pregnancy (around 20 weeks), it is important to keep an eye out for signs of pre-eclampsia.

Pre-eclampsia can range from mild to severe and is usually associated with high blood pressure. If you are pregnant and experiencing any of the symptoms listed, see your provider as soon as possible.
