Stand with me upon the terrace for Jacquelynn Bost Morris, "The Lion's Mane", who passed suddenly yesterday, January 15th.

The original post from Matt Hall, the Gasogene of Watson's Tin Box:

WTB friends,

I write to share the terrible news that Jacquelynn Bost Morris BSI passed away suddenly yesterday. Just one week ago we were together with Jacquelynn and Brent in New York for the BSI weekend, and Jacquelynn in typical fashion gave gifts to fellow WTB members who were there.

Jacquelynn was a center of Sherlockian activity all of her own. Along with being a member of BSI as 'The Lions Mane', and ASH, Jacquelynn was a member of many scions in our area, was a Six Napoleon, and launched the 'Scintillation of Scions' meetings that brought so many people together. And of course, Jacquelynn was Watson's Tin Box Gasogene XIX (in 2008). Jacquelynn wrote many Sherlockian articles, organized meetings. Most of all, Jacquelynn entered every room with a smile, enjoyed Sherlockian humor, and welcomed newcomers. If you'd like to reflect on Jacquelynn, there's a wonderful interview with her at Rob Nunn's Interesting Though Elementary here: https://interestingthoughelementary.blogspot.com/2020/07/interesting-interview-jacquelynn-morris.html

She accomplished and gave so much to our group. That's all for now. There will be a memorial service / celebration of life, likely in March, so there will be time for people to process this news, and we'll reflect on Jacquelynn at our upcoming meeting on January 26.

Matt.

Wishing you all a canonical Christmas! Here's a Sherlockian carol for you. We sang it at the ASH luncheon in November in NYC.

O LITTLE FLAT IN BAKER STREET

O little flat in Baker Street,
How fetid is thine air!
For Sherlock’s chemicals do reek
And foul the atmosphere.
Despite the doctor’s chidings
And Mrs. Hudson’s sighs,
The retorts boil,
Solutions roil,
And compounds crystalize.

Then Sherlock’s morning pipe does add
Unto the noisome fug,
For it consists of nasty bits,
Of dottles and of plugs.
The doctor is not blameless
For his blend’s navy s**g –
It stinks as such,
I’m told as much
As smoking an old rag.

Night-time falls in Baker Street
And cozy is the scene;
Now ‘tis the hour of tantalus
And of the gasogene.
Ci**rs are in the scuttle,
Or take a cigarette,
And bid adieu
To th’immortal two –
We trust they sit there yet.
