When Jenny Brandemuehl’s husband was critically injured in a plane crash, the Diane & Bruce Halle Arizona Burn Center at Valleywise Health became a place of compassion, strength, and unwavering support for their family. A big thank you to The Board of Visitors for standing with Valleywise Health and the people we serve. Being part of this year’s group of grant recipients is truly an honor and a reminder of how strong our community is when we show up for each other.

Grant funds will be used to purchase much-needed Labor & Delivery equipment to enhance patient comfort and support, and to host the Spinning Babies Fundamentals workshop for providers as they continue delivering exceptional care.

We’re grateful to the Gila River Indian Community for their generous $15,000 grant supporting the Valleywise Health Family Resource Centers. 💚

This support helped strengthen free, family-centered programs at our eight FRC locations in 2025, reaching nearly 30,000 parents and children across Maricopa County. From early literacy and school readiness, parenting classes, music and movement, and STEM-based learning, these resources give families practical tools and connections to help children thrive.

Because of this investment, families also received monthly literacy packets, summer activity kits, and more than 3,000 backpacks filled with school supplies, reducing stress and helping kids start the school year ready to learn.

National Burn Awareness Week is the perfect time to shine a light on not only the incredible work happening at the Diane & Bruce Halle Arizona Burn Center at Valleywise Health, but also the strength of those who fight to survive burn injuries, like Jason Schechterle.
