This Veterans Day, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who have served our country. Your courage, dedication, and sacrifice protect the freedoms we hold dear and we are deeply thankful.

We’re especially proud to recognize our nurse practitioner, Shelley Rosander, a valued member of our Southwest Fertility Center team and a proud veteran. If you see Shelley this week, please take a moment to thank her for her service and her continued compassion in caring for our patients every day.

From all of us at Southwest Fertility Center — thank you, veterans, for your service and strength.

As Breast Cancer Awareness Month comes to a close, we’re reminded that awareness is only the beginning — action and options matter too.

In this video, Dr. Vinay Gunnala speaks with a patient diagnosed with breast cancer about fertility preservation before starting chemotherapy.

Fertility preservation isn’t only for those actively planning a family - it’s an important conversation for anyone who may want the choice of parenthood in the future, including individuals who are single or still unsure of their plans.

From egg and embryo freezing to other personalized approaches, there’s no single path - just the one that’s right for you.

At Southwest Fertility Center, we’re here to guide and support you through every step, helping you protect your fertility and your future. 💗

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month - a gentle reminder from Southwest Fertility Center that your health is our priority.
Breast cancer affects about 1 in 8 women in the United States over their lifetime.

For average-risk women, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force now recommends biennial mammograms starting at age 40. If you have a family history of breast cancer, a mutation in BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes, or other high-risk factors, consider starting screening even earlier - and talk to your provider about additional options.

For BRCA carriers or those with strong hereditary risk: did you know that IVF with pre-implantation genetic testing (PGT) can be discussed as part of a family planning strategy to help reduce passing on high-risk mutations to offspring? SWFC can help you explore these complex decisions.

If you’re navigating fertility while also facing elevated breast-cancer risk, or simply looking to stay ahead with your health, our Southwest Fertility Center team is here for care, guidance, and hope every step of the way.

As we enter the holidays, we appreciate that this time is joyful for many people, but as we begin to gather, please remember that conversations surrounding family planning are deeply personal. It's best not to ask.

However, if you are asked a question like this, depending on your comfort level with this person, responding with "I'd rather not discuss that right now" or "That's between me and my partner" are polite ways to end the conversation.

We are holding space for you this holiday season. If you have helpful ways to respond to these conversations, add them in the comments!

Drs. Sujatha & Vinay Gunnala and Marlea Shapiro recently attended the annual American Society for Reproductive Medicine meeting in Denver, Colorado. As always, we are inspired by the growth of the field of fertility and committed to staying up to date on the newest research and technology.

Infertility affects one in eight individuals, and there are many factors that contribute to this statistic. One often overlooked component is the contribution of male factors to infertility. We had the opportunity to attend a lecture by Dr. Sandro C Esteves, MD, PhD, world renown male fertility specialist from Brazil. In his address, he shared new advances in male fertility testing, and reiterated how lifestyle can directly impact male fertility.

At Southwest Fertility Center, we are committed to addressing all aspects of fertility care and to help all people hoping to conceive. Contact us today!
