AAC Compliance Update – HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices Reminder
By February 16, 2026, HIPAA-covered entities must update their Notice of Privacy Practices to meet new federal requirements from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The AAC is working with a HIPAA expert to get all the information you need to know. A short educational webinar will be available for all AAC members early next week.
Key points for chiropractic offices:
*Updated NPPs must explain how substance use disorder (SUD) information is protected, used, and disclosed.
*Previously added reproductive health language must be removed.
*This is a notice-only update, it does not change scope of practice, treatment authority, or billing rules.
Even if you do not treat SUD, this still applies if your office receives or stores patient records that include this information (intake forms, referrals, workers’ comp or auto records, etc.).
Next steps:
*Review and update your NPP
*Post and distribute the revised notice in your office and online
*Educate staff and document patient acknowledgment efforts
*Ensure policies and procedures align with the updated notice
The AAC encourages all Arizona chiropractors to review their HIPAA compliance now to avoid last-minute updates and maintain smooth patient care operations.
