We're proud to highlight Lavalerie Tsinnajinnie, RN, a clinical system analyst at Page Hospital and an active member of Banner Health's Native American, Tribal and Indigenous Voices (NATIV) team member resource group! Our team member resource groups recognize and honor our similarities and differences to foster a culture of belonging and trust among our teams.
Her Story:
"I grew up in Page, Arizona, a town bordering the Navajo Reservation. Growing up in a border town means living in two different worlds—the traditional Navajo culture and mainstream American society. Living in both worlds created a deep sense of resilience, adaptability and cultural understanding. Cultural awareness is important because it helps people understand, respect and appreciate the differences and similarities among diverse groups.
"Cultural awareness promotes inclusion and collaboration, helping to avoid misunderstandings. It strengthens relationships by showing respect for others' values, traditions and beliefs.
"Having resources like team member resource groups gives underrepresented groups a voice and an opportunity to elevate their voice and experiences. Representation is important because it ensures that the voices, stories and perspectives are seen and heard accurately while challenging stereotypes. It preserves culture, promotes understanding and helps build respect, equity and inclusion."
Thank you, Lavalerie, for your dedication to patient care and for helping us build a culture of belonging and trust at Banner Health! 💙
