Black History Month / Weekly Spotlight

This week we honor our very own Navarro Whitaker, COO of Fulfillment In Training (F.I.T.) a leader rooted in purpose and community impact.

Graduate of Tolleson Union High School
Former Tolleson basketball player
Founder & CEO of The Reading Alliance a literacy innovation organization advancing early reading achievement through Science of Reading practices and community partnership.

Navarro’s commitment to community isn’t new, it’s foundational. From mentoring youth to building systems that close literacy gaps, his work has always centered on expanding access to opportunity through education.

After nearly a year of collaboration, Navarro joined F.I.T. because of a shared vision: empowering communities through complementary strengths, strategic innovation, and sustainable impact.

His advice to the next generation of servant leaders:
“Start by serving before you lead. Learn the work, love the people, and build something that outlives you. Leadership isn’t about titles, it’s about helping your community read, heal, grow, and win together.”

We are proud to shine the light on a leader who embodies service, strategy, and heart.

Black History Month / Weekly Spotlight

This week we proudly honor Officer Byron Thomas a leader who serves with dignity and heart.

Officer Thomas graduated from Newburgh Free Academy, NY.
He is a former high school football & baseball athlete.
He is starting his 7th year in law enforcement. He has proudly served with Tempe Police Department from day one and plans to finish there.

When asked what inspired him to become a police officer, Officer Thomas shared:

“I wanted to ensure that at least when I'm working and contacting people, I know the public is dealing with a decent human in uniform.”

That commitment to humanity is what true service looks like.

His advice to youth who want to join the force:

“Find your why and make it impactful on you. It can be tough dealing with everyone’s problems, but remembering why you chose to do the job will push you to continue helping people.”

Thank you, Officer Thomas, for protecting and supporting our community with integrity and purpose.

Black History Month / Weekly Spotlight

Deputy Chief Chris Snow is the definition of what it looks like when discipline meets purpose.

A distinguished leader with Tempe Fire Medical Rescue in the Phoenix metropolitan area, his life reflects a consistent pursuit of excellence, resilience, and service.

A graduate of Desert Vista High School in Phoenix, Chris Snow’s commitment to excellence showed early when he was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 21st round of the 1999 MLB June Amateur Draft. Competing at a professional level sharpened the traits that still define him today: mental toughness, accountability, preparation, teamwork, and an unwavering drive to rise—not for status, but for impact. Deputy Chief Snow made history as the first African American to achieve the rank of Captain within Tempe Fire Medical Rescue—and later the first to rise to Deputy Chief. He earned this through consistency, competence, and the kind of respect that can’t be handed to you, it’s built over time through performance, integrity, and how you lead people when it matters most.

As Deputy Chief, he has been a pillar of foundation for Fulfillment in Training from day one to the present, his support has been immeasurable, leaving a lasting imprint on the organization as a whole.
His impact reaches beyond the station walls. Deeply committed to public safety advocacy and community engagement, Deputy Chief Snow has played a key role in initiatives like the Tempe Public Safety Career Discovery Day—creating real access and exposure for young people to explore fire and police careers.
He is also a respected voice on Black history, mentorship, and fostering understanding within public safety—reminding us that leadership carries a responsibility to honor the past while actively shaping a more inclusive future.

Deputy Chief Chris Snow’s journey from professional athlete to trailblazing fire service leader, is proof that excellence is transferable when your character is solid. His legacy is one of admiration, total respect, and lasting impact… grounded in service and guided by integrity.

Salute to a true leader. 🫡

Today is Juneteenth!
Today, we honor freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of justice.
Juneteenth marks the day in 1865!! two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation, when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas finally learned they were free!!!
It’s a powerful reminder that freedom delayed is not freedom denied and that our fight for equity continues.
At Fulfillment in Training, we are rooted in empowerment, community, and progress. We stand on the shoulders of those who came before us, and we work daily to uplift future generations through sports, leadership, and service.
Let’s celebrate Black excellence!
Let’s honor the past!!
Let’s keep building a future that reflects true liberation for all.
