This one was so special and much anticipated. A few years ago, we navigated an emergent birth situation with this incredible family. We processed it together during that postpartum period and lots during prenatal care this time. We faced fears and anxieties and we trusted each other as we made informed decisions along the way. This baby, bigger than the last, made her way into the world smoothly and quickly. There was not a dry eye in the room when baby was placed on mom’s chest 😭🤍 welcome to the world, baby girl. We are so thankful you are here.

It is said that moms with heartburn during pregnancy can expect to have babies with lots of hair! It was certainly true for this mom and baby!

If your baby had a lot of hair, did you have heartburn during your pregnancy?

This sweet family dealt with so many last minute changes in plans in pregnancy and in labor/birth too. They navigated with grace at each step of the way. Welcome home, lovely girl!

I could not be more excited, humbled and overwhelmed with gratitude to introduce you to the Tree Of Life Midwifery Team 🌳

When I started my midwifery journey, I set out to be a solo midwife not totally grasping what that meant. My first office was in my home and I loved it. What I imagined to be a slow start turned out to be full of unexpected growth and before I knew it, I found myself stretched way to thin, being pulled in too many directions, and perpetually exhausted.

While I had been building my practice, my practice had been disassembling me.

When I said “yes” to being a solo midwife, I said “yes” to missing birthdays and anniversaries, “yes” to showing up to clinic exhausted after being up at births all night, “yes” to being tied to my phone 24/7/365 and “yes” to offering the remnants of myself to my family - to the people who deserve the best of me.

The reality is that full-time solo midwifery is not sustainable for midwives. But what I also came to realize is that it’s not sustainable for clients either. When you hire a midwife, you deserve to have a well-rested midwife at your birth. You deserve to have someone who can be fully attentive to you during your prenatal and postpartum visits. You deserve to have someone available to answer the phone at all times, even if another birth is happening. You deserve a *team* to care for you.

And so, a little over a year ago, I began to dream. I began to dream about what it might be like to build a team to care for my clients. A team of skilled midwives, incredible wisdom, different strengths, and a shared calling. It’s surreal to get to introduce you to that dream come to life today 🥹

Friends, please give a warm welcome to Giuliana Pica and Deidra Wester, two INCREDIBLE midwives. These women have become some of my closest friends. They are midwives who I would trust to take care of me or my daughters. They are so smart, so gentle, so wise, and genuinely some of the most beautiful souls to walk this earth.

Together, we will be serving our clients to provide the best possible care. I can’t wait for you to meet them 🤍

Love,

Morgann

11 years ago today, I became a mother to the most beautiful 7 pound 14 ounce little girl. Labor was long and hard, like many first births are. I learned surrender as the waves kept crashing as my body and my baby made way for her arrival. I remember holding her for the first time and thinking “that was the most incredible experience of my life.”

I remember hugging my midwife as we prepared to leave the birth center. Somewhere deep in my soul, I knew this experience would change the trajectory of my life. And it did. It absolutely did.

That day, a little girl was born, a mother was born, and a dream was born too. A dream to become a midwife. To walk with mothers through the throes of labor, to hold space for their unknowing and their knowing too. To be present for the awkward fumbling through the first latch, and to celebrate every sacred drop of breastmilk a mother makes.

I still don’t know what led me to choose midwifery care as a young woman. That was long before social media in the way that we know it today. Long before “influencers” and long before I knew much of anything about birth. But I am so grateful for the way that my path to motherhood started and even more grateful for the way this path has evolved with time.

I owe so much to my firstborn - the grace that she’s shown me as we’ve grown together, the ways she’s taught my soul lessons that I didn’t know I needed to learn, the incredible gift she’s given me to have a front row seat to the amazing human she’s becoming.

Happy birthday, A 🤍 you are so worth celebrating, sweet girl.
