You are invited to join us for a 7 week dive into the grief you are holding. Francis Weller’s The Wild Edge of Sorrow is our anchor. Weller’s Five Gates of Grief, song, breath, movement, ritual, writing and sharing of losses in this small group setting open wide the possibility to open up your relationship with Grief.

All starting points with grief are welcome here. For some, grief will be intimately familiar and need no introduction. For some, grief may feel more distant and hard to access. No matter, you will be welcome to explore your grief, in all the ways it shows up, in community with us.

Offered seven Tuesdays from 7pm - 8:30pm at the Atlanta Grief House in Decatur, beginning January 13 and concluding on February 24, the structure for our series will follow the Five Gates of Grief and it is not necessary to read the book or prepare in any way.

Shonali Banerjee & Sascha Demerjian have a wealth of experience. Shonali Banerjee as a yoga therapist & death doula, and Sascha Demerjian as the Executive Director and co-founder of The Grief House, established originally in Portland, OR and now expanded to Atlanta, GA.

Step in. You need not grieve alone.
Reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns. Registration is open now at https://www.griefhouse.org/event-details/five-gates-of-grief-series-winter

Another Monthly Full Moon Restorative Sound Immersion at Intown Retreat Spa & Wellness in the books. I love this Sacred Work!! Inviting folks into deep rest through conscious tenderness & care feels so important in these tremendously troubling & busy holiday times. Take a moment to pause your scroll, sit back, breathe and listen to the videos I am sharing here. These mantras, these sounds, this intentionality is life changing. Immerse yourself.

Partnering with Lisa Jordan is a dream. We’ll be collaborating again February 7, 2026.

Benny Silva will be my partner for January 3. Jan 3 is the Actual Peak of the first Full Moon of 2026. This is a powerful moment to practice and I hope you can join us. Be sure to register in advance.

This is not your typical sound bath. Yes, you will be immersed in sound frequencies but you will also be bathed in heart songs sung for precisely this moment in time.

Full Moon Restorative Song Bath, Saturday, 12/6 6-7:30p. To draw together with tender care to relax & heal. Transcendent sound, song and body practices.

Shonali, with over 20 years of teaching experience, will guide you into long held restorative yoga postures which invite your body to release & breathe again supported by bolsters, blankets, and blocks. Shonali layers a sacred song into each posture accompanied by guest teacher Lisa Jordan’s sound bowls, vocals & sacred bells. The deep drone of Shonali’s harmonium & ritual drum round out this powerful resting experience.

Come receive & take care of yourself.

This full moon practice focuses on grounding into our innate wisdom, soothing our frayed out nervous systems and cultivating care. You will be invited, as you rest, to honor your struggles as well as celebrations, to place yourself, as you are, in the waning power of the full moon.

No prior yoga experience is necessary—bring an open heart, a willingness to rest as you hold space for yourself and others.

After class, feel free to further wind down with time in the sauna or in the lounge.

Please register in advance as spaces are limited.

Tuesday, December 2, 7-8:30p, at The Grief House

https://www.griefhouse.org/event-details/all-souls-post-office-1

Discover connection, support, and healing in this special activation, The All Souls’ Post Office, led by Susan Patterson, Shonali Banerjee & The Voices of Love Threshold Choir. In this meaningful gathering, participants will explore the transformative process of writing a letter to a deceased loved one.

Together, we’ll create space for honoring grief, expressing loss, and finding catharsis through writing. Atlanta’s own Voices of Love Threshold Choir will support this process with songs sung to bring comfort & peace.

The All Souls’ Post Office uses letter-writing as a simple and beautiful way to reconnect with the souls of those who have died. There are no rules about what you write, only that you leave your letter in the post office box. A vintage cabinet, literally & figuratively, holds the evidence of our communal loss, grief and new initiatives as our letters are “posted”.

Time and resources will be provided to begin writing your letters during the workshop, or you may choose to write and “post” it later as the post office will be “in residence” at The Grief House throughout the holidays and into the new year.

In the new year, letters will be burned in a special ceremony before the Post Office moves to another residency.

Should you be interested in hosting the All Souls’ Post Office in your community, contact Susan Patterson directly at goingtherewithsusan@gmail.com

Part 2
The Griever’s Ball Interactive Altar and more!

At 6pm last Saturday evening, the long path of luminaries was lit & joyful Frank Hamilton School band music streamed from the Legacy Park Stone Barn behind the track by the pond. People started arriving into the magical stone space filled with twinkle lights. On one side of the space people found delicious food provided by the Refugee Women’s Network where they could eat at tables adorned by beautiful flower arrangements made by Trellis Horticulture. On the other side of the space, a Wellness Raffle, pulled together in large part by Heather (Josie) Joseph, with over a dozen items donated by generous businesses and over a dozen pieces of art donated by incredible artists for the Silent Auction.

Continuing through the space, you could sign up for Tarot Readings with the incomparable Root of Lunar Bee Tarot or a nervous system reset session with the wise herbalist Kelbi McCumber Morris of Lumenous Healing. Keep going deeper into the space and you’d encounter Maya Wiseman & her magical spell jar making station.

Finally, grievers were invited to interact with our Community Grief Altar, created by myself & Kelbi. It was a place to acknowledge your grief & where your grief became held by the larger collective. A place to pour your grief into communal oceans, to slow burn your grief into the ether, and to build a personal altar offering representing the grief you carry.

It was all so wondrous and beautiful, filled with soft light and the organic grace humans naturally bring to this world.

Come join us at The Grief House. There are so many wonderful programs. I have 2 upcoming offerings:

The Threshold Choir is excited to host the All Soul’s Post Office program at the Grief House on Tuesday, Dec 2, 7-8:30pm. The post office will be in residency at The Grief House through the holidays.

And, registration is now open for The Five Gates of Grief series with me and Sascha. The series begins Tuesday, January 13 and runs through February 24, 7-8:30pm. Please join us for this very special small group experience.

Part 1

The Griever’s Ball! I wish I took more pictures! But instead, I spent time with beautiful people whose hearts have been awakened to The Grief House mission, to weave loss into life. It was an incredible night!

There were conversations about healing, growing, & struggling through life’s challenges. And ultimately there was much gratitude for being in community instead of isolated and alone.

There was mini-ritual led by Laura and Sascha, the Grief House co-founders, which invited us to acknowledge the land we were gathered upon and to remember those who are no longer present in body but still present in our hearts and minds.

I sang, Hold Me, a song that seems to have initiate me into this work 25 years ago and then I welcomed Voices of Love Threshold Choir members to sing our songs which bring deep comfort at the bedside of the dying during times of transition.

I loved being part of the core planning committee for this event. Co-founder Sascha Demerjian, Lily Mosley of En Collaboration Avec, and Heather (Josie) Joseph all worked steadily over months to bring this event to fruition.

I believe in Sascha and Laura’s vision for a community which weaves loss into life. I champion the very real possibility of living out loud about our losses without shame & isolation. Through The Grief House we are able to open to connection, inspiration, relief and perhaps most significantly, to tenderness, humanity, & even joy. There’s room to breathe more easily.

It was an exquisite morning holding 3hours of ritual space at the Oakland Cemetery Bell Tower for Ancestral Grief. The autumn trees were at their peak of beauty. We sang, we wrote, we shared, we cried, we created beauty, we drummed, we journeyed deeper still. The fresh winds blew through. We remembered through poetry. We reflected through breath. Smoke, stone, fresh dirt, cleansing waters, flowers & more song. We received.

Thank you to Melanie and Sascha . It’s an honor to hold ritual space with you. My beautiful drum has been initiated into shamanic drumming & it is singing for joy.

May we all have the opportunity to tune inward, to connect with our ancestors and to allow difficult truths to be seen & felt & held with great care & support.

If you’re interested in a Winter Solstice Ritual, Dec 21, comment or DM.

To open up a sacred space for conscious rest while softly remembering our ancestors… last night… thank you everyone who joined us. Intown Retreat is so peaceful & it was an honor to create with Benny Silva.

In fact, Benny and I decided to collaborate again. ❤️ The first Full Moon of 2026, Jan 3, we’ll guide another practice of conscious resting. Join us to begin the year grounded in your heartbeat, the sacred presence of light, & the importance of stillness.

But first, Lisa Jordan joins me again, Dec 6, just past the Full Moon. We’ll honor this darkening time, turning towards deep rest & generosity towards ourselves to support this demanding time of year. Gratitude, thoughtfulness & care will be emphasized through gentle postures, sacred songs & Lisa’s soft soundscapes. Registration is already open. Book it!
