Yesterday’s Bangor Overdose Awareness Day virtual hybrid event was the result of an unprecedented collaboration of harm reduction and recovery organizations that moved through historical organizational and cultural barriers to produce an event that celebrated community, held a space for grief, and shared a time of healing. It was a group that successfully navigated and quickly adjusted to rising COVID concerns, and prioritized the safety of the most vulnerable among us, while managing to connect with unhoused neighbors and people in active use, and providing a portal to resources for those on their recovery journey.
We are proud to have been part of producing this event. Special thanks to Steve Knockwood for navigating and fueling so much; Jill Hendersen for graphics and communication; June Evergreen for fundraising and organizing; Willie, Kari, and Kole for organizing outreach; Marshall and Erika for planning and collaboration, Bob and Bitz for their joyful fundraising, Courtney, Ashley, Zoe, and so many others who work tirelessly for the community, and contributed to making this happen.
