Some of the St. Mary's kids wanted to explain the importance of AAC (augmentative alternative communication) along with the assistive technology team. For many of our patients at St. Mary's, augmentative and alternative devices are how they communicate. It is so important to them that they always have their AAC devices charged and ready for use every day. Could you imagine waking up and not having your voice? 💙

Remembering Otto the Clown. 🤡 Otto the Clown, known to many as Robert Dillon, brought laughter and comfort to children at St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children in Bayside for nearly two decades. With a red nose, gentle humor, and close-up magic, Otto didn’t just perform - he connected, spending meaningful time with children facing some of life’s hardest moments. Before becoming Otto, Robert Dillon was a traveling salesman who discovered clowning later in life and turned it into a calling. He volunteered thousands of hours, believing that simply showing up with kindness could make a difference. Otto once said that when he put on his red nose, “something happens.” For countless children and families, that “something” was joy, relief, and a moment of light in a difficult day. His legacy lives on in every smile he helped create. His Spectrum News NY1 “New Yorker of the Week” profile captured the warmth, humility, and joy Otto shared with so many. Rest in peace, Otto. 🤍

Check out Ryan’s incredible before-and-after progress! 💪 A special collab between St. Mary’s Locomotor Training Program and our amazing OT/PT team.

On the mat, Ryan is moving forward, backward, and side-to-side with noticeably better control, stability, and efficiency.

On the treadmill, you’ll see a more natural, symmetrical gait, fewer compensations, and much less body-weight support needed — all signs of real, meaningful improvement.

Ryan is currently an inpatient at St. Mary’s, and we’re so proud of his determination and hard work. 💙

Last week, our Locomotor Training Program was busy crafting gingerbread houses, decorating ornaments, and singing carols in preparation for Santa’s arrival! 🎅🎄
