Sweet Lorenzo hopes everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day and got lots of gifts! He wants to remind you that a gift meant to be a token of affection can actually be potentially dangerous for your pet. Chocolate, if ingested, depending on type and how much is ingested can result in a range of problems from vomiting & diarrhea to heart arythmias, seizures and even death. Remember, the darker and more bitter the chocolate, the more dangerous.
Also, flowers, while both beautiful and fragrant can also pose a serious threat to your pets. Common flowers that are toxic to pets are Carnations, Tulips, Baby's Breath, Lilies and Daffodils. Safer options are Sunflowers, Roses, Marigolds & Orchids.
If your pet does eat something they shouldn't, contact Poison Control and our office right away. Our office number is 718-621-1629 and ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center is 888-426-4435
Enjoy your gifts and keep your pets safe!
