Families and folks are invited to CPU’s Open House series of events at our Day Habiltiation and Article 16 programs across the five boroughs.

Participants will have an opportunity to tour each site, meet the staff and persons supported, and learn more about the leading therapies, classes, exercises, and community-engagement plans featured at each distinct location.

Each program includes music, movement, fitness, art, online education, and additional learning and strengthening options.

Staff and persons supported welcomed New York State Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton (District 23) on Friday, February 13 as she presented a check representing generous funding for CP Unlimited’s M.O.V.E. (Mobility Opportunities via Education/Experience) program at the Cora Hoffman Center on Staten Island.

“I am proud to have secured $250,000 for CP Unlimited’s M.O.V.E. program to expand accessibility within their facilities. This support ensures all individuals have spaces suited to their needs addressing the inequities that those with disabilities face,” said Scarcella-Spanton.

The transformative, activity-based program helps individuals acquire the motor skills needed for sitting, standing, walking and transitioning with the aid of specialized equipment and Direct Care support. There are currently 15 participants benefiting from M.O.V.E. on Staten Island, with each taking literal steps towards better health, mobility, and socialization. CPU is the only organization in New York to offer M.O.V.E. to adults.

“On the Street and In the Studio” opened with cheers and heartfelt stories on February 7, as the newest exhibition at Positive Exposure Gallery in Lower Manhattan.

“I am so happy to be here and to represent all the photographers. WE CAN DO IT. Whatever we can see, that is what we commit ourselves to. This holds our future. Thanks to CP Unlimited because even though we have challenges, we can do it. And we show it in our hearts. Enjoy the show!” said photographer Marta Colon.
