🍽️ Make Half Your Plate Veggies – Even at the Holiday Table.
This Thanksgiving and harvest season, let’s honor our cultures, our bodies, and our healing.
From collard greens to calabaza, nopalitos to jollof rice sides — vegetables show up beautifully in BIPOC holiday traditions across America.
🥬🧅 Whether you’re making Afro-Caribbean stews, Indigenous roasted roots, or Southern collard greens, veggies bring flavor and nourishment. They’re rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals, and cultural memories.
✨ So here’s your holistic tip: balance abundance with nourishment by filling at least half your plate with veggies you love — your gut, mood, and energy will thank you!
Not only are veggies a cultural staple, they’re packed with vitamins, minerals, and fiber that aid digestion and support immune health — just in time for cold season.
🌿 This Thanksgiving, let’s celebrate abundance and nourishment—not just indulgence.
Across Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and other BIPOC traditions, vegetables are central to many beloved dishes:
✨ Here’s another tip: seek out healthier versions of some of your holiday favorites!
Many BIPOC traditions were shaped around colonial rule and the limits placed on BIPOC - leaving the lowest quality foods in low quantities. Celebrate the freedom to eat high quality produce, healthier recipes and wider variety of flavors…do it for the ancestors!!
📊 Non-Fun Fact: According to the CDC, only 1 in 10 adults in the U.S. eat enough vegetables daily — and BIPOC communities face even greater barriers to access and health equity (CDC, 2017).
Small changes like honoring veggies on your plate during the holidays can support long-term wellness and food sovereignty.
