NYU Cochlear Implant Center NYU Langone’s Cochlear Implant Center has a long and distinguished history of performing cochlear implants.

Opened in 1984, we were the first facility in the eastern United States to implant a multichannel cochlear prosthesis in an adult.

February was a busy and rewarding month for our team at two major hearing research meetings!

First stop: the Association for Research in Otolaryngology (ARO) in Puerto Rico 🌴, where:
• Postdoctoral fellow Dr. Ariel Hight and researcher Dr. Mahan Azadpour gave presentations on cochlear implants and auditory brainstem implants
• The Young Investigator Symposium was co‑chaired by Dr. Emily Spitzer

Next: the American Auditory Society (AAS) meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona ☀️, featuring:
• Talks from Dr. David Landsberger and Dr. David Friedmann on cochlear implant pitch perception and hearing screening in underserved communities
• A New Investigator Travel Award for Dr. Friedmann
• A poster presentation from Drs. Spitzer, Landsberger and Friedmann on cochlear implants

Expanding access to hearing care for underserved older adults 🙌

🏅 Dr. David R. Friedmann has received an Early Investigator Award from the American Auditory Society for a primary care–based hearing program that was well accepted by patients and is laying the groundwork for a larger clinical trial to make hearing care more accessible. 🦻📈

Her dedication, warmth, and connection with our patients have been such a big part of our clinic. While we’re sad to say goodbye, we’re so thankful for everything she’s shared with us over the years. Congratulations and best wishes, Gladys! 🎉😊
