Some individuals run marathons into their 80s and 90s, never experiencing joint pain. Others toil to get out of bed in their 40s due to joint pain. What’s the disparity?
According to Dr. Weis, wear and tear are not the root cause of age-related joint deterioration. Instead, the problem is more complex than that. Our predecessors should have had elevated levels of wear and tear on their bodies. They walked to every place. There were no automobiles, and they had to hunt, collect, or harvest food to survive.

Archaic skeletons had “just a sliver” of the wear and tear we witness today. They had strong knee joints that appeared healthy. They didn’t show signs of the challenging lifestyle scientists expected.
