The International Foundation for Spiritual Unfoldment has three retreat centers, two centers in Spain, and one just outside of New York City in the United States. Our centers are designed to provide our community with locations to meet and practice together in a beautiful setting which promotes our ability to quiet the mind.

Just an hour's train ride from downtown New York City, our retreat center is nestled into a tranquil wooded neighborhood in Briarcliff Manor, NY. Join us for a quiet cup of coffee on the outdoor patio, a guided group meditation in our sunny meditation room, or gather around the dining room table as we share a meal.

The La Peral Ashram is located near the northern coast of Spain in Asturias. It’s doors are open all year round and it is a place that you can use if you need some quality time for yourself for a few days and in a meditative and contemplative environment. You can combine: the beauty of the natural environment and its excellent walks, the impressive beaches 15 minutes away and the excellent food made with fresh locally grown ingredients.

From silence we come and to silence we arrive." Have we moved from point zero in an elliptical way to point zero, or have we remained in this same departure-arrival all along? What felt like a journey or a movement, resembles the state of children on the beach, un******ng, opening themselves to the sun and the salty sea air, transported out of the world without moving from the sand, united in the building of a castle, forgetting themselves as they search for the seaweed and shells that will adorn the battlements. The state of grace is not something that can be easily expressed.

To a blind man you can describe what a rose is like, he can touch it, feel it, intuit perhaps what color it is, but he will only know what a rose is if in his memory is the reflection of the flower he could see one day. The real value of life is just to be; be yourself, that's all you have to do, just be yourself, natural, normal, ordinary: aren't we all just ordinary people? We are ordinary people living an ordinary life to which we can add that realm of love that is there within us. By finding it, we can communicate it to everyone around us, to all those around us. Remember that the ego in itself is not bad. The ego has a dense aspect, but it also has a finer aspect. So, accepting the ego by itself, for itself, with itself, means that you use the finer aspect to overcome the dense aspects of the ego. The subtle aspect of the ego can be compared to a fine silk cloth, while the denser ones are like burlap. When you decide to yourself, "I do not need to keep the idea of myself," then you find freedom.

Join Rahib Bashir, a meditation practitioner and Osteopathic Medical student, for a live course on meditation, how to practice, and ways to incorporate meditation into your daily life.

"Take off your mask."

What is life, real life, all about? Living it to the fullest, of course.

We don't really know what life is about.

Life is a game. What is real in this game of life? Nothing, because it is so transient, so temporary! And yet we get so involved with "me" and "mine" creating so much my-sery.

There is nothing wrong with having things; it is the attachment that is not good.

Turn a little inward and don't live only in the senses, because the real true value of life is something beyond the senses.

If one perseveres, the goal will be reached.

Be honest, take off your masks because masks are bonds for you. Get rid of them. Be yourselves.

You are happy within yourselves and all you need to do is to realize that happiness, that which you truly are. Realize it.

So, you are the illusionist, the magician who creates the private illusion of your life that you consider so real.

If you destroy the illusion, you also destroy reality, because the illusion is the opposite of reality. Without reality, non-reality cannot exist, because everything has to be compared to something in relative terms. You light an oil lamp and a shadow appears beside it: the shadow is real; you turn off the light and the shadow disappears. But remember that in destroying the shadow you have also destroyed the light.

It is our interpretation of things that shape our individualized existence.

The mind is continued with the body. There is no division.

The mystery you will discover is that all the power is within you.

With a shovel you can dig a grave; with the same shovel you can dig the foundations of a cathedral. The art is in using the tools at your disposal in life, because life is not mechanical.

The Bible says, "Knock and the door will be opened." "Seek and you shall find." Who has to act first? We have to knock, we have to seek, and then the desires will be satisfied automatically. Thoughts are things and the thought forces are so powerful that any desire can be satisfied. Good desires will be satisfied if you call and seek; selfish desires will also be satisfied, but beware of the consequences! Satisfying selfish desires has consequences that will ultimately add to your suffering.

A negative thought is worse than a rabbit: it breeds and breeds and breeds. It doubles, triples, quadruples and does it a thousand times throughout the day.

Fighting the mind with the mind will never succeed, because the mind is not perfect. The easiest way is to dive deep within.

He is the architect of your liberation; let him do then.

What the human being is trying to find is total stillness. Goodness produces movement and evil produces movement; therefore, both are bo***ge.

The human being is the master of his destiny. If he uses his thinking abilities to draw to himself that which is above him, then life must change.

Anyone who performs his prescribed spiritual practices and meditation techniques with sincerity and regularity can in six months change any circumstance in which he finds himself. Because without any doubt people are the masters of our destinies.

Though the tendencies might be there, you can formulate by yourself what you want to take unto yourself. So therefore, every day, every moment, is a new moment all the time in which you are forever formulating the next moment. This moment formulates the next moment, the next moment formulates the third moment, and the third formulates the fourth, and like that it goes on. And that is why we say man is a master of his own destiny.
