It was such a pleasure and honor to work alongside Casey Sasner at Acalanes High School, where I served as the School Nurse while she helped launch the Acalanes Wellness Center.

Recently I sat down with Lafayette therapist Casey Sasner, LMFT, to talk about what it was like for her to go back to graduate school after 50.

Like so many women in the “sandwich generation,” Casey was still raising three young adult children, managing marriage and household, and caring for aging parents, all while navigating everything midlife brings.

Her answer to the question “is it too late?” is honest, grounded, and worth hearing.

We talked about what the science says about learning and the aging brain, and what reinvention really costs in real life.

And I loved her answer to the question I ask every guest at the end of the interview.

I just finished my 35th round of the Prolon five day nutrition plan. It’s been a part of my longevity and metabolic health routine since 2019. Most women over 50 I talk with are trying to take care of themselves.

They’re paying attention to what they eat.�They’re trying to stay active.�They care about their health.

And yet many still feel a little off.
Not as strong as they’d like to be.�More tired than they expected.�Or like they’re always trying to catch up.

One thing I’ve learned over the years — both in nursing and in coaching — is that the issue usually isn’t that someone is doing everything wrong.

More often there’s just a quiet gap in the foundation.

Strength.�Fiber.�Sleep.�Alcohol.

Small habits in these areas can add up in ways we don’t always notice.

So I’m hosting a free LIVE workshop on Sunday, March 22 called: The 5-Minute Reality Check for Women 50+
