DID YOU KNOW you can get postpartum preeclampsia after you give birth?
It can happen to any person after they give birth.
If you had pre-eclampsia while pregnant, giving birth is not a cure.

Signs and symptoms of preeclampsia include:
Changes in vision, such as blurriness, flashing lights, seeing spots, or sensitivity to light.
Headache that doesn’t go away, Nausea, throwing up, shortness of breath, and dizziness.
Pain in the belly.
Swelling in the legs, hands, or face, high blood pressure.

Many of these signs and symptoms are common discomforts. If you have even one sign or symptom, call your healthcare provider right away.📞

HOW TO TREAT EARLY INFLAMMATION?
(Lumps, Blocked Ducts, Mastitis)
The principles of management are to resolve the
INFLAMMATION in the breast tissue.
- Feed or pump only enough only to feed baby, not empty (YOU CANNOT EMPTY A BREAST)
Cold/ice packs to reduce swelling/pain.
Ibuprofen to reduce inflammation
- Lymphatic drainage (light strokes toward your armpit)

WHAT TO AVOID IN MASTITIS MANAGEMENT?
The previous methods of management WORSEN mastitis and INCREASE the risk of developing an abscess.
AVOID these actions:
* Deep massage INJURES tissue & INCREASES swelling.
* Pumping to empty tells your body to make MORE milk, increasing pressure.
* Heat WORSENS swelling and INCREASES inflammation.
These cause early inflammation to develop into severe mastitis.

Please call for help if not resolving and if you continue to have a fever and have flu like symptoms.

This 2025 case-control study measured 24-hour milk production to distinguish perceived insufficient milk from actual insufficient milk.

All newborns lose some weight in the first 24 hours. If you received IV fluids during labor, your baby may lose even more, not because of feeding, but because the fluids make the birth weight look higher than it really is.

That’s why the 24-hour weight is the most accurate starting point for tracking growth.

Researchers in Canada found that using the 24-hour weight instead of the birth weight helped more babies stay exclusively breastfed in their first few days.
