It’s been close to a year since I’ve hit any type of PR when it comes to my lifts. I’m strong but I really don’t have the desire at times to put up high numbers when it comes to certain lifts. What I do desire is to get better! My focus has been more on mobility, unilateral exercises and power movements for speed but I’m enjoying how I’m seeing a payoff overall from this training. Especially when it comes to my front squat and deadlift. after going through so many changes the past couple of months I’m back in the 200 club on my front squat. I hit 205lbs once and then took if for my three rep max last night. My shoulders which are some trash from numerous injuries cooperated for the most part. I’m not chasing a certain number when it comes to any specific lift but I am tracking progress and happy to see and feel the fruits of my labor.

I’ve been intentional about pushing myself lately. Coming off of injury and a serious health scare I realized I was holding back when it came to my workouts for the fear of getting hurt. I had to remind myself to be mindful but not become complacent because then I limit my growth.

Preventing injury is important, knowing when to rest is important, knowing your capabilities is also important when working towards your goal. It’s one thing to push yourself, but it is imperative not to be negligent at your current skill level. I’m a trainer but I have no problem doing the research and using my network of trainers around me if there is a new skill I wish to possess. I understand that things get better in time with consistent discipline, dedication, and repetition. If you find yourself holding back write out small goals with realistic time frames to achieve the bigger goal. Superman/Woman doesn’t exist but the best version of you is waiting at the end of your continued commitment to self.
