Your nervous system operates within a zone: and everything outside of it feels unmanageable.
The window of tolerance refers to the optimal state in which your brain can function, process emotions, and respond rather than react. When you exceed it, anxiety and hyperactivity take over. When you fall below it, shutdown and disconnection follow.
Stress, trauma, and chronic pressure narrow this window over time. Therapy, regulated breathing, and consistent self-awareness work to expand it.
The goal is not to eliminate stress. It is to build a nervous system that can hold more of it without breaking.
