Praying for all of our Jamaican loved ones! Praying for God’s protection for all our families and friends (and the animals) in Jamaica to stay safe, survive the storm, and be empowered to rebuild and rise in resilience once the sun shines again. Praying for everyone’s homes and businesses, all infrastructure and communities to be protected. All in Jesus’ name! We thank you Lord for covering Jamaica in divine protection, courage and mercy. This is an unprecedented Category 5 Hurricane hitting Jamaica tonight into tomorrow. Landslides, flooding, flash floods, storm surge will be catastrophic. I still weep for you. My chest. It burns and aches from the emptiness you left behind. My heart! It wants to keep loving you across the stars, to find you and hold you and keep you warm wherever your soul resides. But you’re not here. I can’t hug you, or kiss you, or shower you with praise and affection. How do I not feel left behind? How do I stop feeling hollowed? How do I grieve you every day, and breathe through this aching abandonment? How do I stop this pain of missing you? Will it ever ease up?

It doesn’t matter. Loving you was worth it. You are still worthy of my tears. But living without you… it’s honestly dreadful. I pray our souls reunite someday.

We can weather the storms. We will persevere!!! We will not be destroyed, we will be renewed in our resilience. Don’t give up! We are finding our way forward. You are not alone in the storm… it’s just a blinding rain. It’s just the wild thunder. Hold on to me, to each other! It will pass. No storm lasts forever. And when it stops, the next steps in our journey await us. ❤️‍🩹

As someone with (and someone who advocates for other patients with) multiple rare diseases, chronic illnesses and disabilities, and injuries—it is exceptionally difficult to micromanage the obvious and invisible physical demands and mental/social/emotional aspects of car rides. This meme/screenshot is a great explanation for sick/disabled/injured AND the average able-bodied person, to give a better understanding of what we are going through during even a simple or quick little car ride.

Imagine how you feel going on long car rides, or stop-&-go traffic?! It’s exhausting! Also nauseating and migraine inducing for those of us with brain injuries (post-concussion syndrome). Add in other aspects like bad seating with a jerky back car seat that seems like it’s on the moving track of the Wonder Wheel, or lack of proper headrest support for head and neck (terrible for folks with neuromuscular disease). Also terrible is riding in a vehicle while strapped to a wheelchair! If your chair has no headrest or tall back, then you’re basically getting whiplash and trying to overcompensate for the movements of the car, the whole ride. It’s awful! Also chemical/odor sensitivities, visual impairments, can all make someone feel sick.

The list is LONG for how big of a toll the simplest car ride can have on a person. Case in point, everyone deserves more credit, and rest from driving or being in a car as a passenger. Hopefully all of us sharing this meme can offer a little more empathy in the world for why some folks need serious rest after a car ride. Have compassion more, judge less. 🩷
