November is Running Safety Month. This is the perfect time to ensure that your running routine prioritizes staying visible, aware of your surroundings, and feeling comfortable with your routes and gear — especially when living in a big city like NYC and when daylight hours are limited.
Essential tips include:
•Stay in populated and lighted areas
•Run with others
•When running in a group, stay 2 across and give way to pedestrians
•Be flexible with your plans
•Don’t wear headphones or earbuds
•Carry ID & a Metrocard or cab fare
•Don’t respond to verbal harassment
•Wear light clothing with reflective details and/or lights
