Urinary urgency often happens when the brain becomes extra protective of the pelvic area and signals urgency, even if the bladder is only a little full.
A healthy bladder can hold as much as a grapefruit, but many people feel the urge to go when it only has as much as a kiwi. Poor sleep can make urgency worse by causing the brain to interpret normal bladder sensations as stronger than they really are. Always check with your doctor to make sure there is no infection.

PGAD/GPD symptoms can arise from multiple parts of the body, not just the ge****ls. Contributing areas may include the pelvis, pelvic floor, spinal cord, cauda equina, and brain pathways.

Medical guidance now emphasizes assessing these 5 regions while also supporting ongoing, concurrent nervous-system calming. Strategies that help regulate the nervous system can reduce symptom intensity and improve comfort while waiting for or while receiving medical care.

In January 2026, the Fifth International Consultation on Sexual Medicine (ICSM) published new evidence-based recommendations that significantly advance the diagnosis and treatment of Persistent Ge***al Arousal Disorder / Genito-Pelvic Dysesthesia (PGAD/GPD)

It's 2 AM. You can't sleep because of pain. So you ask AI for answers.

But what if those answers are wrong?

I've been using AI to organize educational blog content about pelvic pain, and I caught a serious error:

AI wrote: "Your body is trying too hard to protect you."

Should be: "Your nervous and immune systems have become hypersensitive to threats; the brain becomes overprotective sending pain signals even though the original tissue injury has healed."

This isn't a small distinction. It perpetuates the outdated idea that pain equals tissue damage.

I also found fabricated research citations and fear-inducing claims about normal activities.

The problem: Healthcare providers can spot these errors. Patients searching at 2 AM can't.

What to do:
✅ Never assume AI health info is accurate
✅ Verify with professionals
✅ Report errors when you find them

AI has huge potential for health education—but only if it's accurate.

Have you caught AI giving wrong health information?

Seeking Participants: Clinical Trial for Women with Provoked Vestibulodynia (PVD)

Queen's University Sexual Health Research Lab is recruiting participants for a three-year randomized clinical trial evaluating
PelvicSense®, a digital home program for women with Provoked Vestibulodynia (PVD).

What is Provoked Vestibulodynia (PVD)?
Provoked vestibulodynia (PVD) is a chronic pain condition characterized by intense burning, stinging, or rawness at the vaginal entrance.

Symptoms are triggered by touch, pressure, or pe*******on, including sexual activity, tampon use, or gynecological exams. PVD can significantly affect quality of life, sexual function, and emotional well-being.

Our pilot study of PVD and Endometriosis demonstrated significant improvements in pain intensity and pain catastrophizing.

We are now expanding to assess whether this online pelvic health program, which integrates physical and psychological education and guided mind/body exercises, further supports recovery in conjunction with medical care.

Participant Benefits:
• Complimentary three-month access to the SILVER PelvicSense® program (valued at $174.00)
• Confidential online questionnaires
• Opportunity to contribute to evidence-based pelvic pain care

For Healthcare Providers: If you treat patients with vulvodynia, chronic pelvic pain, or sexual pain disorders, please consider sharing this opportunity. Your support can help expand access to self-management tools and advance research in this underserved area.

Why Don't More PTs Include Pain Science Education for Chronic Pain Patients – and How MDs Can Help? (Part 1)

🔹 Traditional PT Training Primarily Focuses on Body Tissues, Not the Neuroimmune System and Brain.

Most physical therapists view pain as a mechanical, body-tissue issue. This traditional approach, deeply rooted in PT training, revolves around the belief that pain indicates a weak, tight, injured muscle or joint that needs fixing, releasing, and adjusting unless there is an underlying disease like cancer. While effective for acute injuries, this approach falls short for most persistent pain conditions.

Your pelvis, lower back, hips and abdomen have been tense for so long… but ready to let go.
Chronic pelvic pain isn't just in the muscles—it's in the patterns your nervous system has learned to protect you. Tension becomes automatic. Movement feels risky. But you were never meant to live in a state of bracing.
Like a ripple in water or a silk thread caught in the wind, even the slightest movement can begin the shift toward relief.
The Move Module in PelvicSense helps you unravel deep-held tension—gently, safely, and with expert-guided support.
💜 Healing sparks when you have less fear to move differently.
Healthcare Providers: suggest PelvicSense to patients at start of care to prevent further central sensitization patterns, fear and lack of mobility from taking hold.

Pain → Muscle Tension → Fear → More Pain. Sound familiar?
When pelvic pain lasts months or years, the brain and nervous system adapt, becoming overprotective of your body. But over time, this can create a frustrating loop where:
🔄 The nervous system is more sensitive to any kind of threat (physical, social, emotional or psychological)
🔄 The brain, flooded with danger signals, sends pain, tenses muscles
🔄 You become fearful of moving
🔄 And the cycle repeats...
🌿 The Good News? You can unlearn the pain loop.
Understanding pain science is the first step to unwinding these patterns. In the Learn module of PelvicSense, you'll discover how your brain, muscles, and nervous system are connected and how to gently retrain them toward safety and ease.
💡 Your brain isn't working against you. It's learned to be overprotective, so let's teach it a new way forward.

In 2025, the demand for FemTech products that provide pain-science education and guided self-management skills will surge. These products will play a crucial role in helping women with persistent pelvic pain or pelvic floor dysfunction achieve optimal bladder, bowel, sexual, and core stabilization functions. More patients will actively seek these products, and pelvic practitioners will increasingly recommend them to their patients.

After 4+ months of experiencing pelvic distress, accompanied by natural fear, worry, and a high degree of shame, especially around the pelvis, there’s a natural development within the nervous system, immune system, and brain to become overly sensitive, a term called “central sensitization” that may perpetuate symptoms.

It's important to note that the biomedical approach, which primarily focuses on the “tissue as the cause of pain”, is not a comprehensive solution for resolving persistent pelvic issues. This approach often falls short in addressing the central sensitization drivers of pain, highlighting the need for alternative solutions like FemTech products.

Women are increasingly seeking knowledge and at-home skills that they can implement on their own timeline. These skills are not only empowering but also crucial for enhancing pelvic wellness and managing symptoms, especially when medical care is not immediately available. This is where FemTech products can make a significant difference.

By providing affordable, accessible, science-based solutions, FemTech products targeting pelvic issues may offer a ray of hope. These products, which address central sensitization through a biopsychosocial healing approach, can be a promising path to achieving pelvic wellness, instilling a sense of relief and optimism.
