Fireworks are used to celebrate many events, from holidays to music concerts and sports. Even though fireworks are meant to entertain us, it is not uncommon for the sounds, intense light or smells to cause distress. Those who have gone through a trauma that included explosions, gunfire, loud noises or fire may be more likely to find fireworks to be a reminder—a trigger or cue—of such past events. You can take steps to manage the impact of fireworks on your well—being. Learn more on how to manage symptoms https://www.ptsd.va.gov/understand/what/fireworks_ptsd.asp

New York State is experiencing very poor air quality due to the Canadian wildfires. We are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of our patients and staff. We also offer telehealth appointments at our WTC Health Program - Clinical Center of Excellence at Mount Sinai.
Here are a few actions you can take while we are under this Air Quality Alert:
• We encourage everyone, especially the elderly and anyone with respiratory illness, to limit their outdoor activities when the Air Quality Index (AQI) is high. To check the latest information on local air quality, visit https://www.airnow.gov/
• If possible, try to stay indoors and keep your windows shut.
• If you need to go outside, we recommend that you wear any mask (surgical, n95) you have available to you.
• If you are in distress and having trouble breathing, please go to your nearest urgent care or emergency room.

AirNow is your one-stop source for air quality data. Our recently redesigned site highlights air quality in your local area first, while still providing air quality information at state, national, and world views.

The World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program has launched Health Effects of 9/11, a new online exhibition devoted to raising awareness about the ongoing health effects linked to 9/11 exposures. As we mark the 20th anniversary of the formal end of recovery operations at Ground Zero this week, this exhibit is dedicated to all people impacted by 9/11, including those who lost their lives that day, those who have died from 9/11-related illnesses, and those who continue to struggle with 9/11-related illness or injury.

🆕 We are proud to present the online exhibition “Health Effects of 9/11,” developed in partnership with the David J. Sencer CDC Museum.

Learn more about 9/11 exposures, WTC-related health conditions, the history of and advocacy for the WTC Health Program, and 9/11 health research achievements. 9/11 responders and survivors actively took part in the development of the exhibition, sharing their stories, images, and experiences.
